Princess Cut Help For A Friend

My friend has decided to look for an engagment ring for his soon to be fiance. He thinks she wants a princess cut stone. Can anyone point me in the right direction besides looking for AGS0 stones?

If someone wants to avoid the premium for AGS0, then one needs to look at as many stones as they can to see what it means when one has a "beautiful' princess cut. Many diamonds look pretty good on their own, but when closely compared, side by side, even a novice with a small amount of practice can tell a better one from a weaker one.

If you are impulsive, you will end up making a poor choice probably as there are far more "so-so" princess cuts in circulation than really nice performing ones. Once you have shopped enough to make an informed choice, you'll be a good shape.

You can run the specs through the gemappraisers.com DIY cut grading screening tool, but everyone will tell you not to make a choice based on parameters, but based on visual experience with some trained eyes involved. Also, run a price comparison with the pricescope.com search to be sure of getting a competitive value.

Thanks Dave. I did forward on the chart for princess cuts onto my friend from your site. He''s just started so I sent him a bunch of stones just to get him thinking of his budget. We''ve been looking at AGS0 and non-AGS but ideal cut stones.

I did notice that the IS images for different stones had more or less dark areas particularly in the middle. I also noticed that some had more visible order. Is this a personal preference? I know nothing about princess cuts since I prefer rounds. I''m trying to encourage him to buy online, but perhaps it would be best to visit a local store first?
