Princess Cut - 2.15ct, D color. Dimensional Check!!!

Check out this find for ~ $8K! Anyone other than me concerned with the total depth / small face for a 2.15 ct stone???

Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG

Color Grade: D
Flourescence: None

Clarity: SI3 (Pavilion Side Feather) but rep has confirmed 100% eye clean.

SI3 implies that it''s not a GIA or AGS-cert stone. Therefore, it might have been less strictly graded by "second tier" laboratory. D colour might actually be E-F colour. SI3 clarity might be I1.

Large feathers that set the clarity grade in SI and lower stones can pose a risk to the structure of the stone; feather is a polite word for a crack. Feathers and Princess stones can be a bad combination; the pointed corners are weak points, which are exacerbated by cracks in the diamond.
An SI3 (read: I1 if GIA/AGS) feather as the grade setter could be quite a large and significant one. Do you absolutely trust the rep and their definition of eye clean? Do they have good returns policy, if you''re not happy?

The proportions sound curious. The crown is tall, yet the table is large. That suggests quite steep sides to the crown. However, it scores 1B on AGA''s cut grade, although I remain slightly sceptical about that odd crown.

Those may be the reasons why it *appears* to be a bargain.

Its an EGL certified stone. I am aware that color and clarity gradings may be off... Color to me is not a concern if its an E or an F. The dimensions / SI3 seem to be more of a red flag. The certification shows no flaws except what is shown in the image. Lets say it is eye clean... is there any way to confirm the structural integrity of the stone?

Also, I would be interested in a free program that builds a 2D/3D diamond based on input parameters. Does anyone know of a free program out there?

There's no such "free" program. The basic numbers don't tell the details of the minor facet arrangements that can make quite a difference - which is why many people like to see images.
But having said that; the basic numbers give you an idea.

Non-round cuts are especially difficult because there is no set facet style. For example, princess stones can have variable amounts of chevrons and these chevrons can start at any point down the pavilion. Some princess have a distinct change in the pavilion angle part-way down.

A clarity-grade-determining-feather (SI3-I1), such as the one in the corner of your proposed stone, would put me right off. No deal. End of.

If you wish to pursue it further, I strongly recommend getting an expert opinion as to whether the corner could break off.

Definitely, I know one shouldn''t judge from the clarity plot but the location of that feather concerns me in a low clarity grade ( which could in fact be lower still....)
