Hello Pricescope -

Like many, I've lurked this forum for quite some time and have gotten a lot of valuable insight on purchasing a diamond for an upcoming engagement ring. The time has come for me to make a decision, and I'd like to get some feedback from the gracious folks here.

In short, I've decided to go with a 1.5c princess w/ an excellent/ideal cut -- focusing on ideal light performance. I'm down to two diamonds, and I'd like to get feedback from the board.

Diamond 1 -

I saw this diamond in person today and it looks gorgeous. On paper and in person, it's perfect.

Diamond 2 -

I'm interested in the diamond on the left (while in the tray). When it switches to the prong shots, its on the right.

My quandry here is the pricing. Diamond #2 is ~20% less than #1. On paper, there's a bit of a difference between the two (higher quality favoring #1), but visually, both appear stunning. I'm not really budget constrained, but I am practical. I almost feel like I've gotten to the point of being so obsessed with "stunning", that I'm starting to split hairs at the ends of ideal.

So really, wondering if anyone can provide any feedback or insight which makes on stand out over the other ... or if you were in my shoes, which you'd pick considering the cost/quality paradigm.

BTW - I haven't made a decision on a setting quite yet, but the Legato sleek from Whiteflash is gorgeous.
BTW2 - I'd recommend GoG or Whiteflash to anyone. Both of their levels of service has been impeccable so far!

I'm no expert on diamond but I was shopping for a prince diamond for some time and if I were in your shoes I would go with the Whiteflash ACA because:

1. Looking at the ASET image it seems the Whiteflash one would perform slightly better - now I have limited experience reading these and would not be offended if one of the regular PSer correct this
2. The dimensions of the Whiteflash diamond is more symmetric - my GF is very particular about the 'squareness' of the diamond

However, both diamonds look good and I'm sure both would be a good buy.

I'm not a princess expert, but I like the look of the ACA better; plus if you like the Legato setting it will be much more convenient to have them set their own stone.

I'm not an expert either, but this looks like a no brainer to me, I'd go with WF, it looks like a beauty and since they have the setting that you want, the process of having it set is so much easier. Since you are able to see the WF stone in person, the only other option I might consider is ordering the stone from GOG and comparing it side by side with the WF stone and seeing how you feel about them in person. But I really don't think you would be making a mistake with the WF diamond. Looking forward to hearing what you decided to do!

I'm no expert either. I just made my first purchase for an engagement ring, and went with GOG. I've heard excellent things about WF as well. I went with a Solasfera because of the symmetry and contrast, which I thought was kind of cool. But I won't try to get you leaning that way.

I would say that you're down to such a fine difference in performance that either option is going to be spectacular, that is, once you actually make the decision. If you're not budget constrained, why not pay the extra and go with the WF diamond? On the other hand, if you're leaning more to the practical side, go with GOG. You can rest assured that they don't sell dingy diamonds! It's going to look white and perform brilliantly. Just my $.02

We were in a similar situation a few weeks ago. It was between a 1.59 ACA from WF, or a 1.91 from ERD. We went back and forth on both options forever. In the end we went with ERD and I'm very happy we did. Visually both diamonds were stunning, so I opted to get the larger stone as opposed to "ACA" ranking.

I actually prefer the faceting pattern of the GOG stone more than the WF, but that's just a personal preference. I think either stone will be beautiful. Good luck on your decision!
