I have been looking for a princess cut diamond for quite a while now and came up with this stone that looks promissing. I have not actually seen the stone but from the numbers it looks like a 1B. This one I found at a local b&m store that came recommended. I am wanting a opinion on the stone for the price (would you buy or not)? They are bringing this stone in for me to look at next week but dont want to get my hopes up. So what do you guys think? I do not want to buy over internet so is this a competitive price for a b&m store.

Is this a 1B still with the thn- med girdl?

The price is a bit high compared to the internet, but more alarming to me is that depth/table combination....We have never had that combo do well in our cut analysis, and I would not call in a stone with those dimensions.

Yeah... it is expensive and that shows beyond any other quality of lack of.

How about D-VS2 , and that's still 1k less

The AGA charts that you are using are not meant to predict brilliance, and that the hard part of cut quality. Of course it is not a great idea to ignore the ocasional "extremely thin" girdle that has good chances to chip. A dull stone is no better though, IMO.

Is it from a local seller ? If you have not seen it, that's no different from buying online. If you do select a stone via a shop's website (most have local presence somewhere as well), it is customary to be offered a return period during which you can inspect the stone and have it appraised idenpendently if you so wish: same as a local jeweler would do if they call in just one stone for you.

Just a thought, of course. I'd keep looking...
