Hey everyone! I''m new to this site, so please pardon my ignorance if I do not refer to something in the proper terminology. Anyways, I recently purchased a ring, with the specs below. I thought I got a pretty good deal, but I thought I''d let the experts be the judge.

Size: 1.61

SI2

D Color

Near Ideal cut

$8200 with the band

The band is the "Tiffany''s 6 prong setting" with no channel setting, just the plain stone. I also looked at the stone through a loop, and it was nearly perfect with very little inclusions, scratches or imperfections. It is also EGL certified.

Thanks for any feedback!

You can compare prices using this tool but you need more info off the cert http://www.pricescope.com/diamond-prices.aspx
You also may want to read about EGL certs, they tend to be off, if you do a search up top on EGL you will find some threads on them. You might want to get an appraisal.

The EGL cert added to the "near ideal" comment really put any advice on hold. You just don't know enough to make an informed decision. What reads pretty well, may prove not to be as expected. It could be a super bargain and perfectly graded, but it may well be otherwise.

No professional should comment on the hypothetical value of a diamond that they could actually examine, but have not examined. Hypothetical values are ethically placed on missing items or ones that are no longer in original condition. It could potentially be a disasterous disservice to make a guess even it it seems helpful at first glance.

You should run your diamond through the Pricescope search and see how it compares to other diamonds you can't examine. The accuracy isn't there, but the "prices" come to you for free......Of course, that's what "price" are worth without being able to make a truly vaild comparison. It may help you to do some screening, but I'd advise against purchasing on this basis.

Well yeah I have all the specs on the certificate, but have not purchased it yet. The specs I listed on the above post was what I remember off the top of my head. I put a deposit on the stone, and am going back to pick it up later in the week.

I would heed Skippy''s advice and be a little wary of the EGL cert. It could be that you got a very good price for what you ''think'' that you''ve purchased, but if an appraisal determines that it is lower on the grades of cut, color and clarity it may not be a very good price at all.

Welcome retro,

Also, years down the road if you decide to "trade-in" your diamond...you don''t want
any unexpected surprises regarding what "you think you have" vs. "what you actually have."
