Considering all other specs being same on a round diamond, I found that F VS1 are priced more than E VS2 (reference: pricescope price statistics reports). Same holds true for similar such comparison between color and clarity.

My question is once the stone is eye clean or even 10x clean, why doesn''t the color becomes dominant in pricing?

Can some experts reply on this?

i''m no expert here, but let me ask you this: why does a BMW M5 cost more than a Toyota Camry? Once a car takes you from point A to point B in similar relative comfort, why should there be any price difference? Sure an M5 may drive faster but I can''t take advantage of that because of speed limits anyways.

first off, i would argue that most people could not see the difference between a mounted E and F anyways so I''m not sure it should necessarily have a huge value subscribed to it. as for the VS1 vs VS2, maybe people who prefer VS1 want it to be clean looking even with a loop. plus, while VS2s are generally eye clean face up, they may not be from the side. i''ve seen many VS2s that are not eye clean from the side. by the time you get to VVS, its hard for an average person to find occlusions even with a loop, and plenty of people buy those too! i have no idea why F VS1s are more than E VS2s - could be they are just more rare (supply) or could be that they are just more valued by consumers (demand). whatever the case, over time the market dictates the price. if no one valued VS1 vs color, over time, VS1 prices would have to fall until it reached market equilibrium. but since it hasn''t...

Supply and demand.

On the supply side there are more SI1s available than VVS1s.

On the demand side some of us have a higher clarity threshold than just eye-clean.
