Pricey on-line diamond purchase?

I could be completely wrong but I get the sense that majority of on-line diamond purchases are $25K and under. So it makes me wonder if people actually purchase more sizable diamonds on-line as well.

Have any PSers done more pricey ($40k+) diamond purchases on-line? Which on-line vendor did you worked with? Did you do wire transfer? How did it all turn out?

I think there are a number of PSers that have spent over that amount. In any case, regardless of how much you spend, you will likely speak with the vendor on the phone which will help you get more comfortable with the process. Wire transfers are easy and efficient. I am sure all these vendors are accustomed to the process and will have very straight-forward instructions on how to execute the purchase. That has been my experience.

Thank you for the response LLJsmom. I have already purchased one diamond on-line but on a much much smaller scale and it turned out great.

Its funny I won't even purchase socks on-line because I generally like to touch and feel everything but now I'm considering a purchase like this on-line. I definitely don't have the comfort level but need to get it quick!

Sales of more than $40K and even $100K do happen with regularity.

You’re right to observe that personal reports of this on Pricescope are few and far between, but there are logical reasons. For six-figure sales the buyer can be a personal assistant or agent keeping a low-profile. And while it may sound odd, buyers with significant disposable capital may not feel the need to poll others on a public blog as much as a proposer agonizing over spending his total-savings of $8K.

There also remains a “stigma” about internet luxury purchases as-opposed to buying on 5th Ave NYC, so a buyer getting an “internet deal” might decide to keep quiet about the source. But thousands of diamonds $50K+ are listed, and online sellers do move them - not only through the computer, but - as cited in this article - more and more often through smart phones and tablets.
