Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and must say you guys have built a fantastic resource here. Like many others, I am here to aide the search for that `perfect` stone (ring). I work in Android Mobile dev, and while looking online and in B&Ms I realized I wish I had a useful app that could advise me.

I couldn't find a PriceScope App/HCA app.. is there one? what apps do you use for this purpose? If not, and since I enjoy building better tools I have been thinking about creating one. It would have the HCA tool, GIA vs AGS differences, definitions, tips & tricks, and etc. I saw that there is a patent for HCA, does anyone know if the math is publicly or commercially available? What would you want in an app --simpler the better, since this is hobby project ?

Since I have your attention, if you could advise me on my research it would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for 1-1.1 RB with most bang (visual appearance) for the buck. I also want a setting with some stones/design in it. Total budget is ~10k.

1) What do you think of this stone: http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3398754-1.05-carat-Round-diamond-G-color-VS1-clarity.aspx
2) What do you think of this stone+setting: http://www.costco.com/Round-Brilliant-Diamond-Ring-%281.43-ctw%29-Platinum.product.11288128.html

3) What do you think of taking the loose stone and finding/making a setting similar to the costco one?

Look forward to your comments,
Keed

I think you need to contact Garry Holloway who I think owns the rights to the HCA. Most of us just use the HCA Tool on this site, but a phone app sounds like an interesting idea!

As far as your ring purchase is concerned, we can certainly help you find a beautiful stone! The first step is to look at sites that provide magnified images of the stones and idealscope images. I'd recommend Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, and James Allen to start. I am not wild about the numbers on that B2C stone, but it is hard to choose just by numbers alone.

I would have some concerns about that particular setting and the wedding band rubbing up against those pave sides. There probably is something similar that might be designed a little better. I have one idea and will go look and see it I can find it.

Thanks for the quick reply! :P

I'll send a message over to Garry, the website works pretty well, but on my phone sometimes I like a more simplified interface.

I've heard very good things about Good Ole Gold, WF, JA, but the funny thing is when you run the PriceScope diamond search it seems B2C is most of the results. Maybe low price for lower quality? From a educational standpoint was there something specific in the numbers that flagged it as less than prime?

If you could find that similar setting idea that'd be great.

Thanks!

I agree, I wish that there was a way to filter out vendors or search only by particular vendors.

I absolutely disagree with this "filter" statement. Logically, this is next to impossible reason being if you are looking at a particular diamond on B2C site and the same diamond may reflect on other site too, diamonds stocked with the diamond dealers are displayed with different stock numbers on most of the online stores, the only reason why B2C pops up first is because of their competitive prices rest their services & policies are similar to all the other online stores.

1 simple thing I would like to say is any new comer(online store) entering the market will obviously provide much better service then the one who is already existing in the market as they have already created their brand name in the market and all they have to do is focus on gaining more business but they tend to forget on providing quality service, where as the new comers will always focus on gaining more & more customers by providing quality service. There are pros and cons though but that does not particularly mean it's gonna hurt your interest .

In fact the level of competition amongst these online stores transcends to the customers gain because each one is looking to give you the best customer service & best price to gain your business.

Just FYI, Ella (one of the admins) mentioned in a thread recently that they are about to unveil a PS app. I know nothing about it but it may contain some of what you're looking for. Maybe send her a message for more details (click "report this post" to email admins)?
