I read your post wrong, I thought you meant .7-.8 cts. 7-8 is such rare air

In a nice quality 7-8 is rare air indeed. There are stones listed on that search (and others available in the broader market), but you will notice that in several cases the same stone is being listed by multiple vendors. Since there are a limited number of stones in this ballpark that many vendors can potentially access, the best approach is to shop for a vendor first! Pick one that you feel comfortable dealing with and let them go to work for you.

Rap probably wouldn't be much use. First of all, there is may be only one, or two, or none, of each color/clarity/shape combo sold in a given month. But also prices vary a lot from Rap. A precision cut stone will trade over Rap; a badly cut stone will trade well below Rap. Then there are the complications of eye clean vs. clarity grade, grading labs, stuff like that. See this article for more detail:

You can do a search in that range yourself and see the insane amounts of price variation. In fact, here's two that vary by $400,000 and appear to be the same stone.

Actually it might make more sense to do a search on a more common size and see basically the same thing--there are diamonds selling well above and well below Rap and it's not all because vendors hike up their prices.

thanks for your explaination! I looked up the rap sheet and according to it, the diamond quoted to be should be around 470K. but the quote given to me is much more than that so I wondered. so is it because the rap is based on a poorly cut, poor sym and poor polish diamond? why is there such a huge difference? I guess I just don't want to be a sucker so I want some kind of reference price.

thank you very much!!
