Price Question -- 2 ct. Harry Winston Oval Micropave' Ring

Hi All -

New to this forum but had question on pricing for an engagement ring for my soon-to-be fiancee'. I am looking to purchase the ring below and recently went into the HW store to look at pricing; the sales person mentioned that he would work with me on price but I wanted to get some opinions first. I included the details on the stone below, the asking price was $100K but from my initial research, this seems to be more of a $60-$70K ring (with the HW premium attached). Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thank you.

Do you mean you want to buy this exact ring from Harry Winston or one the same style? A very quick look at James Allen shows a few 2ct D/E VS1/VS2 ovals retailing at around $26K.

I don't know the answer but $100K seems way out of line, even for a HW.

My uninformed guess would be something in the $55 to $65K region - about 2 to 2.5x more than an unbranded ring, but really, I don't know. I wouldn't pay more than 3 x though, unless the HW brand was really your fiance's thing.

Maybe check ebay to get an idea of HW ring prices? Or talk to another representative? There was a thread here, a long time ago, where I heard HW or other big jewelers may give discounts, but I don't think they were 40% deep.

Make sure she realizes that she could have a 3 ct very fine quality oval in equal quality custom setting for what you'll be overpaying for that ring. If the total to do it custom would be $35k, for example, I cannot see paying more than $50k for the HW stamp inside the shank.

Hello,

I think i was in the same position as you about 4 months ago, when i was ring shopping. I realized I wanted something with the quality of HW, but could not pay the HW price. I would say HW jewelry is very well made and they only use VS clarity and F color or better stones. The ring you're looking at is the exact same ring I was looking to get made, but in a 1.53ct center stone. The 2 ct. ring at HW ranges from $65k to $100k depending on the center stone specs. I went a more time consuming, but cost effective route. I sourced the stone myself and found someone to hand forge the setting for me. If you want to see the final product, please see the link below. I can tell you I paid about 1/3 of what the HW price would have been. If cost is not a concern for you, go with the HW ring. But if cost is a factor i would suggest you source a stone and have the setting made. Maytal Hannah made my ring, and she's awesome to work with.
