Was trawling through various diamond sites and found 2 diamonds on the Whiteflash site that raised a question for me that I'm hoping some diamond experts can help answer.

The 2 diamonds are

They are the same carat weight, the same specs (H, VS2), they have the same HCA score (1.4), both are AGS0, both are H&A, both have no fluorescence, etc. To me they seem to be pretty much identical diamonds in all respects.

So why is there a $350 (~10%) price difference between them?

I have asked WF about a similar question before.. and in that instance, I was informed that it was due to costing. One of the diamonds costs them more to acquire than the other one.

ditto. It could have nothing to do with the actual stone, it may be due to what it is costing them to obtain the stone- certifiy the stone, etc.

You can definitely call and ask them this, I am sure they would explain to you why one costs more.

FWIW, I like the cheaper one. =)

I guess there are two ways to price things: standard markup % (seems to be what WF is doing here), and pricing to what the market will bear (e.g., both of the diamonds above would cost the same).

It seems like the retail diamond market could do with a better pricing model (from the merchant's perspective)... <cough cough> :wavey:

Thank you Sparkie, Amysbling & Antelope1.
