Presidium Diamond Mate Diamond Tester ?

I have a bezel set diamond pendant that I wanted to reset as a ring, so I went to my local jeweler''s. I was getting paranoid that the jeweler I went to a long time ago switched the stone out so I asked if they could check if it''s real or not. The lady who helped me took out a black Presidium Diamond Mate that uses thermal conductivity. Are these accurate? It''s the first time I''ve ever seen this.

I believe they make a sound when touched to a genuine diamond. My jeweler friend has one, but I've never really seen him use it but once, and yes, it was real. %^)

They are accurate if the stone is clean and it isn't mossanite. Mossanite will check as diamond on that tester

Most good jewelers still use a loupe to determine if it's diamond or not.

diamond testers are for the blind and the ignorant.




anyone with a loupe and a little experience can separate diamond from cz from moissanite. the three look nothing alike under magnification.
