Well - sometimes such actions seem to be needed when subtle hints don't get through. Maybe we would have achieved a bit more during the past eight years with a shoe or two shaking things up. Then again - GWB thought is was a good sign and part of attention-seeking only. Hm. Maybe a size 16 next time???

I love how long it takes somebody to get to Bush, way after the second shoe. Good thing it wasn''t a bomb!

So many shoe jokes, so little time....

All I have to say is dude was quick dodging that first one!

Hahaha ditto!

I''m sorry, but this is ridiculous. People need to put their big-boy pants on and start acting like adults. There is no excuse for that, whatsoever.

Ditto, Lucky.

Moon: I thought the same thing too! I was thinking "Man, Bush is more of a dodger than I thought!"

I couldn''t believe the guy was able to throw both shoes. That was crazy.

Ha! I can''t believe I missed the great opportunity for that joke. And yes, how freaking absurd is it that he was able to throw the second shoe??!?!?

OMG as a major liberal, I loved W''s reflexes! And that smile! Ha how funny!

Oh and the SS is not at all like in the movies where someone looks at the president funny and they are getting tackled!

ROFL! I''ve gotta hand it to him . . . the man has some reflexes!!!

Calling him a dog and throwing his shoes are both extreme insults in Arab culture, I hear...I''m not sure why, but they are.....

I agree, Bush has some good reflexes!

Karen, it is NOT Thursday!

everyone here is being so nice and PC

I''ll admit it, I laughed my @$$ off! SO and I watched it over and over. I don''t agree or condone it, but it still made me laugh, deep in my belly! How crazy.

Karma is funny, sometimes.

I don''t feel bad, so no need shaming me or criticizing.

I believe it means, you are worse than the dirt under my feet... (something like that)

That''s horrible! I can''t believe that someone threw a shoe at him. Bush moves quickly.

Cut me some slack! I''m OLD, remember???

Does anyone still think the Secret Service are doing their job well?

I admit I giggled in surprise as Bush dodged like a pro, but still...this is a serious breach of security.

It's not like that was a large crowd or a big room to watch. It's not like that guy was sitting their with both shoes in his lap. He had time to take off not one, but two shoes, and lob not one, but two shoes in the air before the Secret Service had him on the floor.

I'm seriously angered that they were that lax. What if those had been shoe BOMBS?

I realize they're human and we all can make mistakes, but it seems like their reactions were too slow for pros. I think someone needs to have a new career after that breach.

Obama hasn't a prayer at this rate

purr, I was thinking the same thing. But I heard someone talking about this very thing last night on TV, and though I came in on it and didn't catch the whole statement, the gist of it was that the room and all in it were very secure. I believe they mentioned checking for bombs prior. But I agree, if I were SS, I think I'd have responded just a wee bit quicker. I mean, this IS the president and all...

And yes, the shoe is an insult. So is showing/pointing the bottom of your shoe towards someone.

I have heard something similar. But MAN does Bush have great reflexes! Not so impressed with social security''s response either, regardless of whether the room was already "secure" or not.

It didn''t even look like it was the secret service that brought him down - from what I saw, the other journalists got to him first!

When my dad told me about this, thinking I''d be laughing, I was really upset. You''re right. The guy could have been throwing something far worse than a shoe!

There is a lot of symbolism in the shoe throwing. It is considered dirty and disrespectful.

The man who hurled the shoe said, "This is a gift from the Iraqis: this is the farewell kiss, you dog," he shouted. "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

I am late to this, had a busy weekend, so was away from TV. I saw the tape, and was like where was the Secret Service??? First shoe was thrown, nothing. Second shoe... then action was lame too. Not a good image at all. Bush has some great refelexes for sure. Was it other journalists that took this guy down? That's how it appeared on TV. The secret service was lagging as far as I could tell. Hoping Obama gets their top ranking agents.

"Social Security's" response? he he! Yes, their response is always a concern.
The most interesting thing about the speech was Bush admitting that AlQueda did not have any presence in Iraq prior to the US invasion (round 2). Dogs are not seen as pets in this part of the world, more like scavengers. The journalist is facing years in jail. Bush's response to his anger and critique of the war? "he must have wanted to be on TV. I don't know why he threw shoes at me."
The attach had just been translated for him...the journalist had last been stationed in Sadir City and had lost relatives and friends in the conflict.

This story is at once
- really funny. I mean, come on it was funny
5.gif

- interesting, with regards to what the journo both said and Bush''s (mis)interpretation of his intent.
- and, concerning. I also hope that Obama gets faster agents than these, or I thnk it is worrying.

Thankyou Swimmer for the extra background.

and just something funny.
more things being thrown at Bush link

LOL! Loved the cat, and the Bush-as-Neo one. Pretty cute.

My theory is that he has practiced dodging shoes from his wife....but it''s just a theory...
