Hi all,

This is my first post here. Please forgive me if I posted in the wrong section of the forum.

I am starting to research engagement rings which I plan to buy within the next half a year or so.

I am fairly knowledgeable about diamonds.
I do not mean to pose the classic debate of Tiffany vs. Non Tiffany. I understand that the stone itself could be acquired at a much better deal elsewhere; especially that I have many jeweler friends.

What I am primarily concerned about it the setting. I set my eye on one of Tiffanys halo rings. I feel like no matter who I turn to, such design of the setting can not be properly replicated. If I were interested in getting a plain solitaire I would without a doubt skip on tiffanys and get a bigger stone. But with such a convoluted setting I am not sure what to do.

What is your opinion about this? Thanks in advance!

My 2 cents. The Tiffany brand has that instant name recognition, but unless you wear your ering on a chain so everyone can read the inside no one will know where it came from unless you tell them. That being said, the halo setting is beautiful, but I have seen MANY just as beautiful, durable, delicate, classic, convoluted amazing halos from many different vendors. My local jeweler has a split shank halo that is to die for. Many PSers will be able to point you to the Halo thread, I am at a (SHHHH) work computer that has some weird restrictions about attaching links. Check out any of the usual suspects on here Leon, BGD, Whiteflash, DBL,ERD plus ETSy for really innovative designers. :appl:
The money you will save even going custom will be well worth it, do you have a local jewlry store that has a designer, check them out.

are you talking about the Legacy? There are certainly other designer halo rings out there that are of equal quality to Tiffany. But, just about any benchman skilled enough to reproduce a copy won't because it would infringe on the copyright. If you like the Tiffany ring exactly the way it is, down to the tiniest detail and can afford it that by all means go for it. However, if you like a halo and are open to other designer's there are a few who could create and equally beautiful ring. Leon Mege is one that comes to mind.

Thanks for your responses.

Firstly, I am attracted to Tiffany not so that others know it is made by the brand, but because I like their designs. In my opinion the majority want to replicate Tiffany, Cartier and Harry Winston. (which is obviously fine)

The ring i have my eye on is the new "embrace"
I will look around the makers that you mentioned. In the past I have always found non premium designer settings not appealing for my taste( don't mean to offend anyone). The exception being simple solitaire or three stones designs of course.

Again, I would appreciate any input

I must say that Leon Mege"s work is very impressive (no surprise to all of you I'm sure!)
