Sorry, no it is a side stone ring, I am talking about the prong for the center stoneIs this for an eternity ring? You havent given us much to go on.
Very specifically he has recommended a U prong for the center stone. All I can find is U prong on side stones, so I am trying to figure out if this makes sense or not.uprongs are typical on eternity bands where you have a row of stones...like this

Are you talking about a ring with side stones and he wants to do the side stones in U prong? What is he going
to do the center stone in (prong-wise). Do you have any pictures of a ring similar to what you are having made that you could post?
on eternity rings lots of little stones are seemingly held into place, so i am just trying to figure out the concept of U prongs. they look nice, but obviously i do not want to sacrifice security of the center stone.Huh. Well, that's a style and maybe he is recommending it due to optics but it's not like that configuration is more secure. In fact, it looks less secure than four prong cathedral or classic six prong Tiffany.
Thanks for the responses. I am not sure about CAD but I can get actual images of rings he has produced using this style. Basically I have a lot of choice in terms of the prong type for both the side and center stones. It is a traditional side stone ring, not eternity band so these sorts of questions never really came up for me before.Ok, I see what you're saying but one is a split shank and one is a single shank. Were you planning on a single shank or a double shank? I agree with
tophat...your jeweler may like the aesthetics of it (and it is still strong) but probably not stronger than a basket. If its one of those 2 settings, I suggest
you go with the one you like. I've never seen U-prong on a single shank solitaire (that I can think of).
Edit...is your jeweler going to do CADs for your ring design so you know what its going to look like and
you can give your approval?
