...is finally here!
I''ve been looking forward to this gem, and I *love* it.

The colour is just incredible, and of course the faceting is perfect.

Here are the specs from Gene:
Purple Spinel - 1.64 ct. A very pretty stone from Tanzania cut in a long oval design. Measures 8.28 x 5.52 mm. This one is from the Morogoro area in Tanzania. Loop clean.
Color: 8
Clarity: 10
Brilliance: 5
Total Quality Rating: 9.3

The colours really are very pretty - it shifts from a bright mixture of violet, purple and strong pinks in sunlight, to a cooler "amethyst-like" pure purple in low light or indoors.
It''s extremely bright and sparkly

First up, Gene''s photo (which btw is exact to real life):

I haven''t been able to get the most creative shots, but these do show the colours quite accurately.
What I can''t show is the great sparkle !

with my OMC for some perspective - for only 1.6ct, it faces up great due to the elongated oval cut.

Wow, it''s so pretty! The color is gorgeous!

showing more of pure purple colour..

Wow it is stunning, and I actually really like the elongated look of it in your rl pictures. Ahh so nice!! It would look great set east-west, imo

Gorgeous stone AJ.

Very dispersive stone and great at elongating the finger.

What a beautiful spinel! And a great advertisement for Gene too. Can''t wait to see what you do with it!

thankyou for your comments
burberrygirl
Deia - me too, I just don''t seem to have the finger real estate for that though

Thanks LG!
and Chrono
and cheers Austen nut - (not sure what you mean by an "ad for Gene" - maybe I misunderstand?)

Thanks all, I''m very happy with it and definitely now a spinel convert - I will be collecting more for sure.

another pic of the "cool" purple in low light for fun..

Great cut and colour.

I adore Gene''s cutting, I hope to get a garnet from him eventually.

Gorgeous spinel, very cool shape. Any setting ideas yet?

Wow, beautiful stone AJ - it''s just gorgeous on the hand, and a north-south setting would be very elegant. And I agree with AustenNut that posting pics of Gene''s stones (especially ones like yours that show off the great faceting), is probably the best thing for his business. I know I would love one of those cuts now! Actually, he mentioned to me once that this type of thing is what keeps cutters like him alive.

That''s a beautiful stone. The cut is absolutely stunning!

Wowzers...just beautiful!

Really nice stone! I''m not a big fan of elongated ovals, but it does work very well for that stone.

It''s gorgeous...but how in the world does it only rate a 5 for brilliance?!?

It''s beautiful and I love the color!

Hey Jstar - because 5 is the highest for brilliance!

I honestly don''t know why this stone sat on Gene''s site for so long - but I''m glad it did ! I loved it from when it was first posted.

Thanks MTG, your new tanz is just spectacular

Absolutely nil as to setting just yet...knowing me, it will go in a ring..

Maybe something like LIB''s grape jelly? I think an antique/vintage style would work well with this oval for some reason..

Thanks oddoneout, mochi, fairway, arcadian and Michelle

Thanks Cellentani,
Oh ok, I think I took that comment not in the way it was intended, my apologies to Austen..

Actually yes, just the other day Gene mentioned that about 90% of his trade is to the public now, whereas it used to be ~20%..

I can definitely attest that his faceting is something special. You really can see each facet IRL like in the vendor pic.

Thankyou Brandy, yes it''s a very bright and colourful lil guy..

No ideas for setting as yet..feel free to chuck any out here!

Vry nice..i really like the look of the elongated oval..your picture taking is excellent with multiple angles and colors showing..I like it..i think in genes photo the color looks a little stale but your photos bring some serious life to the stone and make it jump out more..very nice!!!
