all things equal, would would be a better buy

G/SI1
or
H/VS2

????

G SI1

Depends on the SI1.

Eye clean G SI1.

after looking a a few H/VS2 and G/SI1''s myself, id have to say the color would be more noticeable than clarity based on the naked eye. sure a vs2 is cleaner but who would really be able to tell a difference b/w the 2 stones if the si1 is eye clean. having a 10x loupe would be a different story altogether but id prioritize color over clarity.

Assuming both are eye-clean, I''d say it still comes down to personal preference. Some people are more color-sensitive than others, but then again some people like a little extra warmth to their diamonds. Some people talk a lot about "mind clean," but others see the inclusion-grading system as completely arbitrary.

But what two stones are really "equal" aside from color and clarity? The cut of each must give it a personality all its own, with different manifestations of fire, scintillation, and brightness.

G SI1
ditto if it is eye clean.

For me, neither (provided the SI1 is eye-clean of course). I can''t tell the difference between G and H color.

Ditto. I can tell the difference between H and I under ideal conditions, but those conditions never pop up in real life anyway. If the SI1 is eye clean, My personal preference is the bigger one, assuming that it''s proportionately priced to the smaller one.

But I''m also very, very new to this whole thing, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Of course cut would be king in this decision and although most are voting for the SI1 a few questions come to mind that I'd want answers to ...

1. Are the inclusions in the SI1 compromising its optical properties? I just saw an SI1 that looked fine in one lighting and cloudy in another due to the nature of the inclusions in the diamond.
2. Are the inclusions in the SI1 compromising in any way the integrity and/or durability of the diamond. Many times in lab reports (even among conservative ones) inclusions in SI1 can reach the surface and be open making the diamond further susceptible to damage. Those are some of the answers I'd be seeking amongst others.

Also ... Tony Stark/IronMan fan here too. :) Avengers is coming. =D
