Poll: Which of these two rocks?

I finally settled on a setting but am torn between two rocks. I need opinions from experienced eyes with these flaws since I am shopping online. Price scope helped me discover these gems.

One is 0.85 carat vvs1 and appears clean and the other is 0.95 vs2 with some light streaks. Both are Excellent cut and G color and within $100 difference making it a hard choice. My girlfriend wears 3.5x loupes at work on occasion so I'm not sure if the streaks are worth the extra size at that magnification.

Easy, the larger one! Those are magnified a heck of a lot more than 3.5 times, so no worries about the VS2! The overall size difference definitely will be noticeable!

Did she chose the channel set setting style? Or did you chose that style?

The flaws don't scare the diamond admirers away? Thank you, I appreciate the input. I think it's only a 4.3% surface area difference.

I chose the setting based the engravings on a similar ring she liked. Not hard set on it. She talked about using a ring that was in the family for years but she keeps that safe and if it goes missing, there goes my surprise plan(and possibly my head). I figure we can move the stone over if she has her heart set on it.

Flaws that aren't visible to the unaided eye and don't compromise the structure of the stone shouldn't be an issue (in my own humble opinion). Please keep in mind that diamonds formed in volcanoes, and that any of them have made it to the Earth's surface intact is remarkable. So yeah, go for the size.

The VERY SLIGHT flaws in the VS2 are actually good things IMO. They are like birthmarks, she will be able to always know it's her stone. And that is a very clean stone. Plus diamonds are graded at 10x and that image is at least 40x. So a 3x loupe is likely not going to show much if anything at all.

But yes, she will notice the difference between a 6mm and a 6.3 mm stone.


As for the setting. You chose it based on the engraving, huh? That engraving is cast, and honestly, not all that great. And if she wears a loop then she' probably knows the differences in quality. SO..

While I understand the appeal of one stop shopping, in this case I'm going to recommend you consider getting the setting at ID Jewelry and having it sent to James Allen for them to set the stone into.

ID Jewelry is a Gabriel an Co. retailer an can get you one of their settings. Their prices are usually 20% off the listed MSRP for Pricescope members.

James Allen will charge you a nominal fee for setting your stone in an outside setting (I think it's like a 100 bucks).

These are beautiful. I think these other settings you mentioned will work better without compromising style. The prongs look less catchy.

You absolutely did the right thing! I have tried on that setting and it really isn't very high off the finger at all. But that Vatche isn't a channel set setting. It's a pave setting. Are you sure you have the right setting number?

I actually meant the Vatche 1534 (and you are right, it is Pave) The Brian Gavin 5542W18 you just suggested is very similar. As well as the Legato Sleek Line Pave. One of those two might be the one unless you know of any similar ones to compare to. Very beautiful!

I would go for either of those instead of that Vatche. That one is set high.
