When you look at every piece of jewelry posted on PS what percentage do you look at and truly think is beautiful and impressive vs. you think it's kind of plain not all that impressive or even unattractive?

It's a poll not a philosophical debate or a discussion about manners and social conventions so please be brutally honest.

I generally like about 80% of what I see... Some things are either too chunky or just not my taste, but I can appreciate that someone likes it and I will still congratulate them on a lovely piece. If I REALLY think it's unattractive, I just refrain from saying anything.

I am kinda like Tuckins on this, alot of it I like some I dont, but I do try to say something positive, my thoughts are everyone is different and they like different things.

I like most of what I see. There are certain things I don't care for but in those cases, I simply don't say anything.

I like quite a lot of what I see and if I don't like it I don't comment. I'd say that I like about 60%.

I say I like 80% of everything I see. Before I came to PS, I couldn't appreciate the beauty of many pieces but being here has given me a completely new perspective on jewelry.

I definitely like most of it... and if i don't like it i won't comment. I go by "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" -- why rain on someone's parade just because they have different taste?

I think a very high percentage of what I see here is beautiful. However, that doesn't mean that I personally want a high percentage of the pieces - there are many rings that I can see the beauty of but don't suit my personal taste and style.

I think I like more than 90% of what I see. I think most PSers have taste that I can really appreciate. Every now and
then I see something and thing "ugh"...its just not MY taste.

I also said about 80%. This is because I estimate that around 80% is from great PS vendors with beautiful designs! I don't like some of the low quality settings or items with strange designs. I like more traditional and high quality settings and we see a lot of that here. And of course, we are spoiled in that most of the diamonds posted are exceptional. I'd say that I like 95% of items from respected PS vendors.

I completely agree with Lady_D on this one.

I like about 80%. I LOVE about 5-10%.

Agree with this completely.

No, I would never say anything if I didn't like someone's jewelry. We had the same thing about watches in all the years I participated on watch forums. People want to feel good about what they choose and the last thing I would ever want to do about something so personal is hurt someone's feelings.

Also, I should say there is very little rhyme or reason to when I congratulate or compliment. I don't say anything if I don't like something, as I said, but if I don't say something, it doesn't mean I don't like what's posted. Basically, there are so many pieces posted that I can't keep up with all of them. I'm sure I don't even see many of them.

Thanks everyone for taking the survey. I think the results are very interesting. It seems that 80% and 70% is where the majority of the votes are.

Probably less than half of what I see is to my personal taste so I had to vote 40%. I know that sounds harsh but I asked everyone to be brutally honest, I started the survey, and I think it's fair for me to reveal how I voted.

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate the fact you all took the time to participate and your comments. :appl:

I said 10% because to me it's all about the diamond itself.
I've gotten used to near-naked diamonds in tension settings.

After years of wearing a diamond in what is in the closest thing to no setting at all I'm spoiled and biased now.
The light show emanating from the side of a diamond can be as gratifying as the top view.
Plus more light can not only get out the side, it can get into the side too. :appl:

Other settings hide much of the diamond and prongs just seem like jail bars to me, sorry.
I usually don't like any more than one diamond per ring, so that diamond can be better than if the budget was shared among more diamonds.
To me since a titanium tension setting is only a few hundred bucks (instead of a few thousand) this leaves more budget for a better diamond.

So for me the ultimate setting is cheap and hardly there.
Sorry, you said brutally honest.

Flame Retardant: This is my opinion and it applies only to me.

No reason to be sorry. I like hearing different points of view. Thanks, Kenny!

I'm curious as to the other 3 who said they only like 3%...I'd like to hear reasoning for my own curiosity.

I said 50%. I mean, it's only a relative thing. I'm looking at pictures on a screen, never the real things. I don't like solitaires of any cut, no matter how big, they do nothing for me at all. That must knock out 50% right there. There are cuts that I don't like at all. Then again, I like some cuts that no one else seems to like much. I'm not overly picky on stats at all, it's just that being around PS for a few years leaves me thinking there's very little I haven't seen before and some things I've seen too much.

most of wife's setting are cheap and simple.... two simple plat setting and the rest are cheap 14kt WG/YG.

I voted that I like 60% of what I see on here. I don't like the very chunky or heavy settings, and I don't like many of the popular diamond shapes, so that knocks a lot of jewelry out right there. I LOVE some halos, but I find most of them to be too built-up so I dislike most.

I only say nice things when I comment, and if I really don't like a piece I don't comment at all. But I often don't comment at all on things I do like, so that's not a good measure.

Maybe 60%.

I voted 80%, I really like most of the pieces I see, and even if it's not my taste I appreciate the beauty of the diamonds/settings/design.

my favorites are the things that are truly unique... I can think of a few off hand that are just so different from the norm - I always give those higher favor whether I'd want to wear them or not. A lot of them are lovely but are all so similar - someone will change the shape of their prong and everyone is like oh wow how innovative. I like things that are truly inventive.

I voted 60%...

I'm not huge on following the current trends of jewelry and loving them. I might find them visually pleasing but pleasing vs. likeing...you get my point.

I like "different things" and a lot of what happens on PS, in my very, very humble opinion, is designs that are followed and perpetuated. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. But personally, I tend to stray away from that norm.

I LOVE to look at whatever is posted here. It gives me a really good feeling to see lots of beautifully designed and executed jewelry! I love looking at all of it!

But I would say that 40% of the pieces I look at are just not to my liking, and that is all. Not because they aren't beautiful, or well-designed, but because they just don't appeal to my personal aesthetic.

FYI: I don't think I have EVER posted anything on a thread in SMTR/SMTB that is entitled "Ugliest" rings....I couldn't bring myself to tear someone's piece of jewelry down that way. It's fun to look at sometimes when I'm in a catty mood, but I have never found anything online or in real life to post there. I get it, it's there for a reason, and I appreciate that it exists, that thread, but I haven't found myself wanting to participate. Perhaps someday when I come across something I think is truly worthy!

Much love to you all.

~Monnie

As your question was how much do I like, my vote was for 60%.
If the question had been how much do I love, or would want for myself, it would likely be in the realm of 10%.

Much of what Monnie has said sums up my feelings regarding uniqueness / taste, and along the lines of posters before me I only actually comment on a thread when I really do like that piece, or am genuinely happy for the poster.

eta: I am keen to hear the reasoning behind the posters who voted in the highest & lowest categories
