I received my ring in platinum and the metal did not look pretty at all - it looked like a yellowish-grayish weird color - The ring has diamond pave and the metal against the diamonds did not look nearly as pretty and bright when compared the the same ring in white gold. So I changed the order to WG.......has anyone else experienced this??? I have 2 other platinum rings and they didn't look like that......

Very odd. Platinum is known for being icy white.

I strongly dislike white gold so I always choose Platinum or Palladium.

I love platinum and always choose it for rings. It is versatile, hypoallergenic and durable and it doesn't lose any material over time. It doesn't tarnish and I also love the patina it develops but if you don't you can have it polished. What is the platinum alloy used in your ring?

I also love the weight of platinum!
I'm also a fan of rosé gold for color.

I don't see platinum and white gold as competitors. But then, I adore white gold for the nuances of colour different alloys and karats can yield, and I don't care for rhodium plating at all.

If a piece of jewellery is art, and if that art has colour... one artist called it painting with metals, and different metals represent your colour palette. I know that most people choose metals for other more practical reasons, though, so your mileage may vary.

I don't know the mixture of metals they used, but it looked ugly. I have 2 plat rings and they are a gorgeous gray color and even when polished, it is still gray/pretty. This was like a tarnished yellowish steely gray - I think it would bother me so I opted for WG.....I hope I made the right decision.

Never had that experience platinum is the same color more or less as white gold and wont ever change and with gold trading at 1390 and platinum at 1440 I prefer platinum

Very well said.

Im a gold gal. I'd always choose gold- unless say, I found a one of a kind ring already made in plat.

Are you sure it was plat? Because plat is never yellow tinted. That would lead me to believe it was gold.

I completely agree! I have really grown to love the different variations in un-plated white gold. There is something about it that makes white gold more intriguing to me.

I prefer rings to be made out of platinum, and white gold for other types of jewellery like earrings, pendants, brooches and bracelets.

DK :))

Polished platinum is white, not gray at all. I'd be curious what the alloy was in that platinum. It couldn't have yellow so that must have been coming from the environment. If you like rhodium, you can always have platinum rhodium plated. I just think it is the better metal for the long term for the reasons Missy and others have stated. I do buy earrings and necklaces sometime that are white gold because they don't get the wear rings do.

I agree with Laila. My first thought is that perhaps that the metal was mis-identified. Another possiblity, since this is a vintage piece with warm colored diamonds, is that some of the body color of the diamonds is reflecting off the metal giving the platinum a sort of yellowish cast in certain areas of the setting.

I prefer platinum but my wallet doesn't always agree with me. Often, I purchase WG only because it's less expensive.

With your ring, sounds like something wasn't right with the metal combo. I'd probably talk to the vendor before switching metals, IF you really had your heart set on platinum.

The manufacturer already screwed up the first ring making it 50% smaller/scale. I don't trust them to do the metal right.
What do you think of the link I posted above??? THat was like the color I saw.. yuck. What do you all think?????
