There was a poll like this years back but I'm curious how responses have changed since then. Also if you post a reply let me know if your diamond's carat size is a factor, as I noticed bigger diamonds can 'hold their own' against a band and are therefore easier to stack with a band. I will be wearing my wedding band alone in my left and ering on my right. If I had a diamond bigger than 1.5 I may have stacked them - But even then I love the beauty, symbolism and simplicity of a simple wedding band, and think my ering doesn't look like a right hand ring (in the symbolic sense - RHR meaning a ring I bought for myself). I also don't plan on wearing any RHRings on a daily basis. Any additional rings will be for for special occasions. I had a matching set before (both with pave shanks, same width) but people always thought I had a split shank. Everyone I know has them stacked and I have always thought their e ring looked better alone when they were first engaged.

Is there an "Other" option?? I have a few sets pending on my mood swing. Some I wear stacked, some I wear seperately and sometimes I just wear stacked bands. It is just how my mood suites me. Typically I wear my 5.06ct with a thin wedding band and my 4.31ctw eternity on my other hand. If I wear my 3 stone then I don't wear any wedding band. Wow I really am all over hte place! Anyhow it is whatever you want and floats your boat. I didn't comment in your other thread but I love what you are doing with different hands. You can stack them when you feel like being traditional and seperate on other days.

I wear both rings on my left hand, I just like the way they look together and that's how I'm used to wearing them after 30 years! - I do change bands for a little variety. And once in a while I'll wear the ering by itself because I think it looks nice on it's own. I think I'd be nervous wearing the ering on the right hand since I'm right-handed and afraid I'd knock it too much.

I've realized this year that I am just not into RHRs. I inevitably take it off halfway through the day because it's bothering me. I love the look of a single e-ring on the left and a band on the right, but for me it's just stacked on the left and I think that's how it's going to stay.

Aw thanks SB! Looks like 1 is the front runner so far. I like that separating my rings is a unique choice...feels very exotic as they do in Europe or Asia. However I can see why most would want to stack them as e rings have gained in importance so much. I totally get the dominant hand thing... I take off my rings when doing house work so isn't a problem for me.

Love hearing different thoughts!!

I think the other thing is right now stacking is a big trend. Every few years some trend always pops up. Step cuts, halos and now I really think the trend is going towards stacking thin bands.

I actaully voted for #3 as I have that band (though not by SS, I had DK version). But really they are all gorgeous!

Actually wear my ering on my right hand and eternity marquis on the left. I am left handed and it is more comfortable this way. Plus both my band and my ering over almost 1" so nothing else can be worn with it. (although I sometimes wear one stackable with my ering.

I used to wear e-ring and wedding band stacked together but my old set was gold and the metal was wearing down. And then I read on Leon's site how damaging it is to wear rings together, so now I wear an e-ring on one hand and a wedding band on the other. Or I wear just a blingy band with no e-ring at all.

To tell the truth, where I live an engagement ring is not usual. Despite of it I've got an engagement ring from my now husband back in 2010. We have chosen back then a wide wedding band made of platin, what is normally worn in Europe on the right hand.
These are our wedding bands:

But I wanted to do my husband a favor, and as he is right handed, I told him, we could wear our rings on the left hand. It would be easier for him, and I also liked the idea of the Roman's, that a vein runs directly from the third finger on the left hand to the heart. I found it so romantic, so we wear our wedding band on the left hand, and I wear my engagement ring on my right hand.
Besides that I also fell in love with the way the ladies from USA wear their rings, so I wanted to have a small pave band to my engagement ring. Now I have my engagement ring in white gold on my right hand with a small rose gold band, and it looks like that:

(I just putted both rings on the left, because it was easier to photograph)

Are you right handed? Why does it bother you to wear it this way?

Good point! I've tried stacking but never liked how it looked on me... With super thin rings (1 mm) yes but any thicker no. I've seen the two e ring with two wedding bands look but again, not for me and it's so hard to find two rings that work, let alone three, that don't diminish the look of the centre stone. Am I alone on thinking this?

Number 3 is nice and would be great if I wore them stacked. When I posted those options my intent was to wear them stacked, but now that I've tried out waring them separately I just prefer the look overall. You're not all over the place - your approach allows the most flexibility! I posted this poll as I'd like to educate myself on the best approach for me based on others' experiences. For now until I find a compelling reason to stack them, I'll stick to wearing them separately.

I wear all three rings (ering, plain spacer, diamond band) on my left ring finger, when I wear rings. I don't wear rings on my right hand, I used to wear a plain one on my middle finger but after a surgery a few years back I haven't been able to due to a scar. It is wildly uncomfortable. But I probably wouldn't anyway bec Im not someone that is ok with "rubbing" or "banging" potential.

My wedding ring is two-sided pave and I've also noticed scratches on the plain gold side! And that was from rubbing on a plain gold side of my ering. I thought Leon's article was very smart and it actually set me on the path to research more about it and get to my decision of wearing them separately. Less damage + beautifully showcased rings sold it for me.

Those who stack - any tips or secrets on making stacking look nice? Or do you just do it for tradition? Or some other reason?

Stunning and sooo sweet! I wish sometimes that DH and I had gotten matching bands....but him with a pave band would be laughable! He has a guy friend with a diamond solitaire wedding band so I actually think it's neat that guys can start wearing diamonds to match to their wives. The yellow diamond set here was SO COOL...can't remember whose but it was a yellow emerald cut set.

I'm sorry to hear about the surgery. This is the only reason I worry about my approach as I'm right handed. However in test driving it now and hope I can change my day to day movements. I don't do hard manual labour for work so I can see that being a factor for some righties. I also like the symbolism behind the wedding band on your left...that's why I wouldn't do the reverse. I'm also not crazy about the idea of looking perennially engaged...I had a coworker who only wore a solitaire ering and it just gives a different feel. Maybe if her erng was more intricate it could pass as a wedding/ering combined, then I'd be ok with it.

redroze: of course my husband wears the band without the diamonds, and I have the band with diamonds. :)

Lucky you - if I was a leftie I wouldn't have to worry! Guess you curse all the other right handed objects in life...DH is a leftie so I speak from experience. ;)

We have a winner!! Thanks all for weighing in. I'm good with being in the second category by a landslide. I'll pore over the stacked bands thread in SMTB to see if I can be convinced otherwise. Yay eye candy!

I have a thin eternity wedding band that can sit flush against almost any ring. Since I got married, I always wear my eternity band with a e-ring or "rhr" on my left ring finger. On my right hand, I usually wear my good luck 5 stone on my middle finger. I switch it up with other bands or colored stones on either my right finger or middle finger.

Now a days, I have too many rings that don't get wear outside. I find myself just wearing bands at home so they get some wear.

I vote other as well. I wear my wedding ring on my right hand by itself because after 12+ years of wearing my rings stacked I noticed that my band was worn down on the top ;( Now I wear it on my right hand always. My ering now sits at home because I'm a fiddler and I was consistently dropping my ering because I would play with it. Now I wear my new sapphire stack, diamond eternity, and for play my Cartier trinity (which is my mother's ring) :D

Your posts really resonate with me bc I am unting for a perfect band to e-ring. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot if fun, but I'm beginning to wonder if Leon was right about bands detracting from the rings beauty. I hadn't read that until I came across one if your threads. I do know that a compelling reason for me to wear my ring on my left hand is that it is more comfortable, but also because when I am ring watching and enjoying others bling, I look at the left hand first and dismiss the left hand as a right hand ring. Because many people wear rhr's that are costume And reserve the left hand to showcase their "ring to rule them all"! Anyhow, that is my rationale. My husband pointed it out to me since he is proud of his effort in financing my ring and feels it should take center stage.

Braga I just saw your note and I've been following your posts too. Frankly I've been shocked that such a simple and stunning solitaire like yours has been so hard to match and compliment! I know what you mean about the left finger having more 'importance', that why I'm looking for a band that I can stack on days if like them to be a set. Who knows, maybe ill find one I like so much that I will wear then together. Until then I am hunting around to see sets that I like to get a sense of what works. I've come to the conclusion that with a more ornate and tapered shank like mine, the ring should be much thinner, with a gap. I think the only time the no gap look works is when the band is a totally different style than the ering (for example a diamond eternity when the ering is a solitaire) so they look like two different rings, but even then a but of a gap is (I think) more flattering. The diamond size also plays a role as smaller diamonds get lost when the 'shank merging' effect takes place. Also for more detailed rings it is harder to find a match cause you need to find one element of your ering to match - such as the diamond shape or milgrain - yet make it look 'opposite' in some way. This last point is my main dilemma. I will take the advice from here and wait til my ering arrives. Then I'll try on a bunch of bands with it to give me a sense of what will work, and probably get it custom made.

I will only be wearing the wedding ring, but it will also be the more blingy one. Would wear them both, but the e-ring is wg and future w-ring platinum and they don't match style wise either.
I guess I'll wear the e-ring alone if there's a situation in which I feel the blingy one isn't safe enough to wear (beach, cottage, manual work).
