I think I've asked this question in some form or fashion in about two or three of my threads.... but here's one with it just put bluntly.

Let's say both are the same price.

1.) 1.5 carat, G SI1 eyeclean Triple EX certified but not quite H&A signature, however does still score under a 2 on HCA

2.) 1.5 carat H SI1 eyeclean Signature H&A diamond, scores a 1.5 on HCA

I'd get the H because I can't tell the difference between G and H, and I prioritize cut over color.

And by prioritizing cut over color, you see a sparkle and brilliance factor in the signature H&A stones?

I could barely tell a difference between the hearts on fire H and triple ex G tonight... but under different light conditions, I did see the hearts on fire H sparkle more.

What are the stats on each? What types of inclusions make them SI1s?

This thread has every single stat you'd need for the "H" color signature H&A stone...... I don't have any stats for a "G" color triple EX, but for the sake of argument, let's assume the "G" color isn't a slouch... it just doesn't have as nice of specs as the "H" Signature H&A

Not trying to hijack your threat, but this is an interesting question. What is more important H and A or proportions of the stone. For instance would you rather have an H and A stone that might be a slight bit deep and a slightly larger table or a near miss on H and A and proportions near perfect?

I thought signature H&A stones and perfect dimensions went hand in hand....?

Every signature H&A stone I've viewed scored a 1.5 on the HCA...

It's really not possible to answer without having a stone with which to compare the H. Are we comparing GIA vs AGS, H&As vs non-H&As, or ideal vs non-ideal cut? If it is an H H&As or a G near-H&As ideal cut, I'd pick the G. I'm getting the sense you feel GIA stones are inferior. This is not necessarily the case. The difference is that their top cut grade has a lot of variation from blah to phenomenal. So yes, between a top G GIA vs a top H AGS, I'd pick the G. At a carat and a half, I think an H could be a little warm. This is just my opinion. That said, if you saw an H and liked it, go for it. I think you need to decide what your priority is. (AGS cert? H&As? color? size?) Only you can make this decision. ;)

This is true in most cases since a cutter taking the care to achieve perfect optical symmetry is likely to be striving for an ideal cut stone. This is not the rule, however. H&As has become somewhat of a gimmick. (I don't like using this word because it implies it's a bad thing.) Because of this, you cutters having "H&As" put in the notes on GIA and EGL reports for stones they believe show this effect, somewhat arbitrarily at times. H&As is an optical symmetry characteristic. It is possible to have a so so H&As and an amazing traditional symmetry stone.

I've thought the H would look a little warm as well, however based on numerous responses, I've been lead to believe that such a "perfectly" cut stone would hide any kind of warmth and really not be warm at all. (based on what everyone's said in that thread I pasted above)

I guess we'll see how it compares here in a few hours.
