Hi,

My boyfriend has budgeted $8000 for my ring. I want an eye clean SI1, F or G color, and the best cut possible. Two questions:

What would be the dimensions for ideal cut?
Is that possible for $8000?

I''d like 1.3ish ct solitaire.

I know there are so many threads on here, but I''m still confused about the angles, etc! Sooo much to learn! Any feedback would be much appreciated.

The diameter for a 1.25 in an ideal cut with medium girdle should be just around 7mm.

If you have the crown/pavilion/table/depth measurements for a stone you're considering, I'm sure folks here would be happy to take a look and give you some opinions

I checked quickly on WF, GOG, Nice Ice & Wink's sites & didn't see anything w your desired specs under $8K - maybe i missed something...

regardless, I did find several candidates on engagement rings direct. if you're potentially interested in any of these, Mark would be able to run sarins on the best ones & give you HCA scores & if you have any questions as to what the numbers mean, we'd be happy to help you when the time comes

$7619 F SI1 1.25

$7862 F SI1 1.29

$7472 G SI1 1.37

$7935 G SI1 1.36

My suggestion is you think carefully about your wish list.

- Agree that cut is King. All the posts I read indicated a good cut makes any stone appear much whiter and beautiful.

- Eye clean SI1 is a good value

- If the size is important to you then you may need to losen up on your color. Personally, I could tell a D from F, G & I but found it very difficult to seperate F G & I. Have you compared well cut stones in the H-J range? Read the FAQ on color and do a forum search. Also, look at some of the ring photos.

Personally, I ended up getting a J H&A SI1 with an HCA of 1.4 It's a stunning piece and allowed me to get a larger size with my budget.

I'd also check Dirtcheapdiamonds.com where I bought my gf ring.

Very nice to deal with and very good deals.

From what I have read on this site and many others NiceIce, WhiteFlash, Wink are also all very reputable and the savings vs. brick and mortar is substantial.

oh yeah, can't forget GoodOldGold, who also get great reviews from buyers here.

All I can say is, thank you to the inventor of the internet (and I don't mean Al Gore)

I strongly suggest going to Tiffany's and asking to see 1.25 rounds in different colors - that's how I determined I wanted an F, not a G, because I could see the yellow in a G. But as many around here say, most people can't see the difference, and if you're lucky, you'll think a G or even H are just as white as an F, and save some money.
