Hello All - this is my first post before joining, I've been reading this forum extensively for advice and tips! Here is the situation, I am located in Canada and my wife with my newborn son is currently in China with her family on maternity leave/vacation. They will be back in May of this year and my wife's 30th birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks.

I want to give here a surprise and purchased a pair of Cartier earrings and would like to have it shipped to her. I understand that all commercial carriers does not offer any type of insurance or whatsoever for jewelry and companies like Parcel Pro or GS4i will not offer shipping for individuals....

Am I really out of luck with the only option of risking it by "concealing" the package.... Please help and any advice/tips is greatly appreciated!

Did you ask Cartier if they would ship it directly to her? That is the only way I can see it being done. Otherwise, I would tell her you have a surprise for her and you will celebrate her birthday when she returns. That is a long time to be gone with a new baby! I'll bet you miss them!

Have you talked to Cartier?
They have locations in China. There's no reason to buy "locally" here in North America and pay for/risk shipping to the other side of the globe as a private individual.

i agree that talking with cartier is your best bet, though i do not know if they will do it.

you may want to check out parcel pro though i don't know if they work with individuals for one-off shipments. i have no idea how much they charge, but they definite ship jewelry internationally, insured, up to $100,000.

if the earrings are very high value, armored services such as brinks will ship jewelry internationally, insured. but it is very expensive, $3,000-$4,000 per shipment.

I honestly would wait and give it to her when she gets home. She will have to get back through a lot of airports with a baby and carry-ons and I would be afraid to have valuable jewelry with me. I have been to China once with a baby on the return flight, and it was a very long and tiring trip. I wouldn't have wanted to have to deal with jewelry in addition to everything else. Keeping passport and money/credit cards safe is enough to have to worry about.
