Ok I am very new to this and I have read many threads and would like confirmation that I have the correct understanding of what I should be looking for.
Are the following the correct ranges?

Shape Asscher
Color F-G
Clarity VS1-VS2
Cut VG-G
Polish VG-G
Symmetry VG-G
Girdle T-slt tk
Depth 65-71%
Table 55-65%
Fluorescence none
Length to Width Ratio 1.00- 1.02
Certificate GIA
Girdle None
Crown 12-17% Not listed on most sites
Culet None
I want a great diamond (who doesn’t) and believe that I may be able to save money with eye clean ranges instead of dimensionally perfect diamonds. Is this correct? While performing searches I am confused when there are great price differences between similar diamonds.
I am currently in the market for a 2 ct diamond but have found the price range to be huge. So, to restate my question. What should I look for to be a beautiful diamond without paying for the unseen quality? Ex. If you cannot see the difference between a VVS1 and VS1 with the naked eye so why pay for the VVS1?
I have a few diamonds that would like opinions on if that is ok?

Depth can be lower than that. I personally wouldn't go over 70 on depth unless there was a discount. Crown % higher than 11% really is fine. The table can be slightly larger as well, as long as the crown height is still good.

But the biggest point is. Symmetry should be Excellent to VG. Good is bad with step cuts.

Polish should also be Ex to VG, but it's definitely not as important.

H VS2 would be good range. G VS2.

And we need pics. Close ups of the diamond, and an ASET.

ditto gypsy. I would go as low as a G VS2 but prefer a depth around 67-70% and EX symmetry and EX VG polish only. Table to 64%. Good luck!

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-1049402.asp It's an H, and you have to find out if it's eyeclean, but it looks promising from the numbers and the one picture provided.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-863309.asp center looks dark, but it could just be the pic. I like the shape of it though. I'd ask about the girdle. Normally i would have discarded for the girdle, but the shape of it is so nice, I thought it was worth a look.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-859330.asp Has really fat windmills but could be nice.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-860920.asp something is off about this one, but I don't know what it is. Could be the pic.

no go on this one, your right about the dark center

1.06 l/w is out of my comfort zone

most potential of the 4, need IS and CH, pic is not the best but looks like the stone is fine

You should have seen the 36 I discarded. LOL.

Storm is our asscher expert... so there you go! There is a large price difference of about 8K between the least expensive and the most expensive, fortunately the fourth one is priced nicely.

I totally missed the L/W on number three. The spread is terrible too to top it off.

not surprised I weeded thru about a 100 in the 2ct and just under range on JA a while back for someone and pickens is slim for good ones.
Another option is contact gog and see if one of his preferred sources has any freshly cut ones available but they will be on the upper end of the price scale.

Yeah, GOG has beautiful ones (not the ones in stock now, the ones they source for clients, the ones on the site are usually discards), but they are priced accordingly. Of course, with the amount of information you get at GOG, they should be.

Ok so I have been beating the path and now if I may I have another question.

What should these be? This is insane

33.gif

Crown angle
Crown depth
Pavilion angle
Pavilion depth

Can you actually pick Asschers by numbers? I doubt it. Just like cushions you need to see how the facets work to create that ''hall of mirrors'' effect and the ''windmill'' pattern.

I kinda like this:
http://www.jamesallen.com/grading_report.asp?pic=860920&type=2

but it has some pin point inclusions in the pavillion which shd be small enough to be eye-clean.

Crown angle no set number is best

Crown depth 10%+ proportional with depth

Pavilion angle varies depending on crown

Pavilion depth vaires

pictures rule and numbers drool

Thank you for your comment. I understand that the numbers drool but they should get you close...right?

I have read in this forum not to get a depth of over 71% for example.

I agree with the pictures but most online sights don''t have them and we Jams Allen''s VS1 has a tone of flaws that you can see. I thought they should be harder to see in that grade.
