My OMC needs a forever "home" and I need help choosing!

Ok - so this has been a LONG road -- thank goodness for patience.... so instead of re-sharing the entire store, the group pic of 4 stones/rings below is an easy way to break down a long story! So, I had the original e-ring- lower left, we upgraded to a larger stone top left and bottom right = same stone- bottom right is in the temp mounting (1.53 to 2.53-but it was a Modern Brilliant Cut, we only chose that one because the store pretty much said we had to pick then (they only had 2 stones to show us) or else we wouldn't receive the sale price. so, I agreed to chose one- a couple days later had buyers remorse because I truly wanted an OMC and so I called the store and they agreed to let me exchange it- saying that they too thought I was pressured into the sale and thought it to be unfair... therefore, kept the upgrade until they could find an OMC and when they did (6 months later - top right) we swapped them out - :naughty:
so, now the debate is the setting --
I'd love something with an antique/vintage feel but simple and classic with a thin band in rose gold - Im tempted to go with more of just a tiffany style, simple rose gold setting, but it feels a little too plain :rodent: -- do any of you PSers have any ideas of what this little beauty should pick to call her "forever home"? I haven't been able to even wear her yet except in the temp mounting at the jewelry store for a couple minutes... and Im dying to finally wear it!! :twirl: Please, please help me come up with setting ideas, I've searched for the past 6 months and can't find anything I just love -- I've combined bits and pieces of one and another, but when it's all put together it's always too busy :knockout:

Any and all suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated!! :appl: Thank you!

Specs on my new stone:
Old Mine Cushion
2.52ct - L - Si1

Re: My OMC needs a forever "home" and I need help choosing!

Oh I love this stone much more than your old one! What are the "bits and pieces" that you love? What styles do you like?

Re: My OMC needs a forever "home" and I need help choosing!

@madelise- thank you! This new stone definitely makes the original upgrade stone look awful, but I do believe it was dirty when I photographed them side by side.. either way, I LOVE the new one! :)
I've attached a picture that the jeweler drew up for me based on the "bits and pieces" I've liked from other rings, but Im afraid now that they are all together, it's too busy... the split prongs, the swoopy bar the cathedral sides... just so much going on when I want the attention on the stone but still have a beautiful setting :) Please tell me what you think... I really like the "floating diamond" look... where there aren't any bars connecting the prongs... but they keep telling me I have to have bars for support.... I am open to any and all suggestions :)

This is another example of something I really like...

Hi. I have the Michael B Petite Touch of Princess Ring for my OEC and I love it! High quality workmanship. It is a more delicate version of the one you just posted.

I REALLY love the OMC you finally ended up with. Such beautiful big chunky facets!

I actually also really like the design your jeweler came up with - CADs almost always look chunkier than the finished product, and the representation of unfinished prongs sticking up isn't helping. As a finished product, though, I think that would look really delicate and graceful.

If you don't want connecting bars, you'll need much thicker prongs. I have fishtail prongs on my original engagement ring with no connecting bar. The design is similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-PLA..._Engagement_Ring_Settings&hash=item35c7f5d11f Would something like that work for you? If not, I think the connecting bar is safer ....

What about Mark Morrell's Torchiere or Sunburst setting? You wouldn't need to get any of the side diamonds...I think it would be gorgeous with your cushion. He has many variations of it: http://www.mwmjewelry.com/

He also has a beautiful four prong version.

I love the look of the old cut stone in a beautiful delicate halo like Sarahbear's. Hers is the VC Emilya and I love the look, it is just super classy - old world feel with a touch of modern elegance. And you could easily pair a rose gold band with it and I think it would look fab...

Re: My OMC needs a forever "home" and I need help choosing!

I posted in your SMTB thread but thought I would add my suggestion here as well...

After reading "thin band in rose gold", the first set I thought of was ksmom's gorgeous stack:

I actually really like the photo provided by your jeweler. What about getting a simple double-prong setting like that for your new stone and pairing some vintage bands with it?

Re: My OMC needs a forever "home" and I need help choosing!

I love the Sophie you posted. Do you like the Kylie or the Bella?

@stargurl78 -- That is BEYOND gorgeous!!! This is kind of the look I was going for -- however, I wanted the diamond to be more "floating" and not sitting on that band... but I keep hearing it's better to have that band that attaches the prongs (Im illiterate to diamond terminology sometimes lol sorry) for support... this is one of the best I've seen... I LOVE LOVE IT!! Thank you for sharing! :appl:

@madelise- Im so happy others enjoy the chunky facets too... it took me forever to find this little gem... Im so happy!! Im also happy that there are others out there like me (this site) because my FI and friends do NOT understand why this stone makes my heart happy lol
I have always heard that CADs look chunkier in the pics and the prongs really throw me off lol -- can they not make a picture exactly like the finished product will look?! With all of the technology these days - I mean I can go into Paint and draw it lol -- it's frustrating because if I could visually see it I think it would really help ease my worry  Your fishtail prongs are very unique!! I've never seen that before! It looks very vintage, I love that.. not too much detail work, but just enough to give it a little bit of something without too much!
Oh *sigh* I might just have to accept the connecting bar and suck it up lol
Thank you for your help!

@maccers - that is a very beautiful option... I do like the idea of removing the side diamonds... possibly leaving that space open.. that's pretty without being too busy - thank you! :)

@Stargurl78 - I posted on the other thread as well.. but this is worth posting 2 times.. this is my #1 contender... I love it! Im hesitant about that connecting bar though... I'd love to be able to see all of the diamond... maybe they can make that bar a little more delicate? I don't know.. it's pretty perfect! Besides, the reason I loved this cut of diamond was the cupcakey ness on the top lol - what a description I know... but that's what I call it  so maybe the underneath just shouldn't be a concern and I should focus on the top cuppycake part :naughty:
I appreciate you posting this.. it's definitely my favorite so far.. and I love the stackable bands idea.. I've already been feeding those thoughts into the FI's head .... at night .... while he's sleeping hehe :D

@luvsdmb - I do like the idea of that second one you posted... for some reason I have a really weird phobia about my ring looking like a flower... I don't know what it is.. I'm drawn to halo'd rings, rings with "flower looking properties" yet, I refuse to have a ring that looks like a flower lol - yes, I might be crazy :) but those both are very beautiful! Thank you for sharing and helping!!

@goldfish8 - I LOVE the halo - love - but since I had the one with the halo already I was hoping this time for something that really makes that center stone stand out -- AND, I don't trust this jeweler to make a halo look as graceful and delicate as Victor can... not many can :) but that is a gorgeous ring.... and weirdly, my wedding band is her exact band .. but hers is sapphire and diamonds and mine is all diamonds with rose gold... the oval, circle interchanging one -- I LOVE IT!! :)

Re: My OMC needs a forever "home" and I need help choosing!

"FI"? You're not married yet? Wow, 3 upgrades just during your engagement… lucky you!

I would take your jeweler's advice re: the bar for structural integrity. That way, when your FI pisses you off, you can pretend to accidentally smack him across his face with your e-ring without worrying about it breaking or damaging the ring :naughty: No but truly, you don't want to risk damaging your setting and losing your stone. I also think you should spend as little $ on a setting as well. Don't go for Mark Morrell or any other name brands. You seem to have a fickle heart for bling. There's no purpose in spending $1K or more on a setting that won't be "forever"… or even close to it.

Would you be willing to consider getting it done by an online vendor? Poppyseed has her Incredible Solitaire that always looks stunning with cushions. And it's extremely affordable. http://diamondbistro.com/category/196/Rings/listings/34652/Incredible-Solitaire.html

You might want to flag Ella to help you merge all three of your identical threads posted here (wrong sub forum), in antique/timeless jewelry, and in RT. It's against forum policies.

@Madelise- I've posted before, obviously, but wasn't aware I was breaking the rules by posting in more than one forum :errrr: Sorry! I also am a little unfamiliar with how to "flag" do I just do the @ sign and her name? @Ella? Any help would be greatly appreciated... I definitely do not want to get kicked out of the PS community :errrr:
Thank you!

I'm glad you like this one, it's gorgeous! Maybe you could show it to your jeweler and talk to him about what you don't like about it and see what he suggests?

Just click "report concern" and let them know...

Yes, setting decisions go in Rocky Talky.

First I would like to say that the OMC is about 1000 times better than the cushion it replaced! So glad you were able to make the change!

I have a strong preference for cushions in halos. I just don't love them as solitaires like I do a round stone.

@Diamondseeker2006 - oh wow, Im really behind on policies.. I didn't realize only setting decisions go in a specific forum, hopefully they can help me to fix my wrongs  I messaged the "report a concern" and tattled on myself - I feel bad :(sad

Now, having said that... THANK YOU! I think it looks 1000 times better as well, which is crazy because that cushion I had (the upgrade before this one) was gorgeous on, looked so pretty and was so clear and sparkly... but in that picture... ewwwww... it must have been dirty, but still the OMC blows it away! -- I do love the halo- but I am so picky about the daintiness of the halo and the exactness that it drives me bat crazy to stare at it all day if it isn't perfect... therefore, I need something that I can stare at that does NOT have a lot of detail to drive my OCD brain crazy... lol - someday I may go back to the halo, but this whole process has been just that, such a process... that Im ready to just have a ring on my finger that I won't pick apart completely with my crazy eyes lol :Up_to_something:
