Please help me with my graduation ring!

I posted a while back about looking for a graduation ring to celebrate getting my doctorate. I had cold feet about a pretty OEC and sapphire ring but I have since passed my boards and have a job lined up, so I'm ready to get the ball rolling! Here's what I'm thinking:

1. My school colors are blue and white so I was thinking of blue sapphires and diamonds.
2. White metal, preferrably platinum since I'd like to wear it to work and will be using a lot of hand sanitizers that eat away at white gold.
3. Something low-set and comfortable, again so I can wear it to work. I tend to prefer daintier rings since I'm on the more petite side (just ordered my scrubs and was shocked to find out I was an XS petite!)

My budget is $800-1200 but now that I have a job, I'd be okay going a little higher for the perfect ring which leads me to my next point.

I recently spoke with a local jeweler about creating a custom ring for graduation. I was thinking a graduated, bezel set, 7 stone band with alternating sapphires and diamonds. I spent 7 years at the school (4 undergrad and 3 grad) so it would be symbolic. The jeweler mentioned that we could do irradiated blue diamonds instead of sapphires for a slightly higher cost. I have no idea how much a ring like this would cost to make, however, and I'm not 100% set on the idea yet since I haven't been seriously looking (or asked pricescope for help) yet! He should be getting back to me with a quote over the next few days.

So, please show me any rings you think I might like for graduation. Also, if you have any thoughts on going the custom route, blue diamnds vs sapphires or how much something like that might cost I'd appreciate any advice any of you have to offer! Sorry for all the questions in one post! Thank you!

I love blue sapphires and diamonds together, blue diamonds are a different shade of blue--which do you prefer?

I'm not sure what size stones you are thinking with a graduated ring, but I think that could be nice.

What about this Brian Gavin ring, but with blue sapphires or diamonds (one image shows blue sapphires), and made into a 7 stone?

Or this one, same modifications (or do 7 sapphires and 7 diamonds for a 1/2 eternity style):

I think either of the BGD rings would be under budget even if you went with slightly larger stones.

One of my favorite sapphire/diamond rings, Gypsy posted a thread on her friend's ring a while ago and it is just gorgeous (Catmom also had this ring in all diamonds--yum!): http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?products_id=10876&cType=&osCsid=f3g9lkssh2muljgckjoc7pv257

Here is a nice 7 stone band

I know this isn't platinum but the price can't be beat for an almost brand new BGD bezel band

I love the idea that a seven stone ring would have symbolic meaning for you with all your years of schooling. You are getting this as a graduation ring afterall.

I also like all of the options others have posted. I have a ring similar to the BGD marquis and round band, but in all diamonds. It is low profile and very comfortable to wear.

Have you seen the blue diamonds? They are a totally different kind of blue like rubybeth mentioned. Personally, I'm more of a fan of sapphires.

I love the idea of a seven stone for you ring. You don't have to go platinum if all you're worried about is the purel harming white gold. It won't. Do go and see some irradiated blues in person, if you can. Or just do a google image search. They are very different from sapphires.

Thanks for all of the replies! So many gorgeous rings... how does anyone ever decide? Perhaps just being able to look and drool without the possibility of getting something was easier!

rubybeth - the brian gavin rings were what sort of sparked the idea of my doing a 7 stone bezeled band! I'm glad you mentioned the color difference too, as I think the sapphire blue is closest to my school colors. The extra sparkle of those blue diamonds may have momentarily blinded me!

vintagelover - that 7 stone band is almost exactly what I'm looking for! and so many other gorgeous options. Thank you!

I think I'm going to have trouble deciding until I get that quote back from the jeweler about a custom ring. Thank you all for your time! It is very much appreciated!

I think the jeweler is giving a me a quote for both blue diamonds and sapphires, and would have some more blue diamonds to look at if I want. Would sapphires hold up as well? I think they'd be pretty protected in the bezels, but obviously aren't as hard as diamond (which I think is why he mentioned them in the first place).

What size ring do you wear (sorry if I missed it)? I would go with that pre-loved BGD diamond/sapphire if that's your size. It's really beautiful.

Do you want something vintagey or more modern? If I wanted a stand alone ring in that range I'd do either a 5-7 stone as you suggested or a titanium tension setting. I love the rings that have posted here from Boone Rings. They're a different and quite unique look.
