Hi Experts,

I'm in the searching of ear studs and I cannot make the decision because I think I don't fully understand the pictures yet.
Of the 2 diamonds in the attached picture, the one on the right looks more "transparent" to me.
Does it mean that the one on the left has more brilliance comparing to the other while viewed in real life?

Thank you very much!!

looks more to me like the contrast in the photo is kicked up in the stone on the left.

do you think the picture is manipulated? PSed?
But they are from the same & reputable vendor

Looks to me like the photography - the lighting, the exact positioning of the stone relative to the lighting (stone on the L tilted slightly more toward the light than the one on the R?)

I would not worry about it though - is not a stone quality issue, or representative of visible differences in the stones.

Hi Yssie,

Thanks for chiming in. I have another question about the IS pic:

Does the saturation level of IS mean anything? Or only the pattern matters?
I noticed in some stones, the red color under the table is less saturated, does it matter?

yes - and no.

depending on what setup a vendor has, how the camera white balance is set, what colour light is being used - I've seen anything from bright red to almost purple. The colour isn't what is important, it is the variations in whatever colour the image is that matters - light purple vs. dark purple, or black vs. purple, rather than purple vs. red, if that makes sense?

In some photos it can be hard to distinguish between "light red" leakage and problems capturing it in photography - especially if the stone is not perfectly in focus. As far as precision tools go, the IS does not top the list - GOG's DiamX system is a more precise evolution of the concept. Some some vendors bump up the colour contrast and saturation (which changes the colours slightly) to clarify the areas of leakage vs strong return, but if improperly done it can mitigate or exacerbate true leakage.

Thank you Yssie.
This is really complicated, but I feel like I'm starting to understand some of the magic now ;)

you're welcome ::) there's some interesting stuff on the various tools you often see here, if you poke around for a bit, and GOG has good tutorials - try the "The Technologies" link on the homepage.

I don't know, I think not really.
But they will have different personalities.
