Good day, all! I want to thank many of you for helping me in some of my previous posts - twice already you talked me out of making a mistake.

I've settled on the following: Tacori 2620 with a cushion diamond. I am looking for a similar look like GOG's august vintage diamond (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMB6pJ_Tv0o)

From all the shopping I've done, no one has better pricing on Tacori than Rokstok. Although I've inquired with GOG and a local jeweler, their pricing is at least $1000-$1500 more than what I can do with RokStok. So, I was hoping I can show you all several diamond choices I've selected with Rokstok and hopefully someone will be kind enough to help select the best one in my budget. Here are my main requirements:

1. Cushion cut, between .75 - 1.00 carat.
2. I am looking for the diamond to have a lot of "fire", so cut is more important to me than clarity. This is a similar idea to what GOG was showing in the youtube link I posted above.
3. Price range for setting + diamond is $5000-$6000. Please keep in mind: when pricing on Rokstok, it is important to pair a setting with a diamond and look at the final price as they offer a discount this way. With this discount I am hoping to get a decent diamond to fall in my price range.

Ok, here we go. My setting will be this: http://www.rokstok.com/catalog/tacori/135-01245

Any one of these diamonds will be in my final price range after Rokstok's discount is applied at checkout.

If you have time, I am also open to other diamond suggestions from Rokstok if you wouldn't mind linking me to it.

Thank you all immensely for your help! Have a great weekend!

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

Without images, preferably ASET, there is no way to tell how these stones will look like and how well they perform.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

please note that there is no cut grade on the GIA certificates (i don't believe GIA gives a cut grade for cushions). make sure you do your due diligence with the numbers, asets, etc. to determine the cut quality, and therefore light performance, of these diamonds. the prices give me major red flags, they are way, way too low for diamonds of that size, color and clarity, and i'd say cut, but that's a moot point since their cut grades haven't been issued by a reliable lab.

ETA: i see you have ruled out GOG because of the pricing on the setting being so much more, however you are likely putting a dud diamond into a killer setting going the route you are suggesting. may i suggest this diamond from GOG, which leaves you room to purchase the setting from them as well (they offer 3% discount if you buy the setting from them too, and they offer a lower bank wire price)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8583/

then for you 6k budget you'll have both a killer diamond and a killer setting and the whole package will be spectacular vs. possibly .

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

yeah, what SC said...no way to tell what these cushions will look like without images.

what about this one?

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

I believe another poster had an issue with setting price, but that GOG would price match another vendor. I can't find the thread right at this moment though.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

Be sure to compare the company policies between Rokstok and Good Old Gold. GOG offers a great trade-up policy on their AVC and also an initial return policy (I think 30 days) to evaluate the loose stone for yourself (confirm all that with them). In addition, GOG provides lots of data and information on their diamonds.

Those AVC posted for you to consider look great! I'd definitely talk to GOG to see what they can do for you on the setting.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

Thanks for the tips so far. I emailed this list of diamonds to Rokstok and asked them to provide more details on the cut of the diamonds and to send pictures.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

I was quoted a great price on 2620 (rose gold) from Solomon Brothers (just shy of 3K). They also said if I purchased one of their diamonds, they might lower the price even more...their diamond prices are close to Blue Nile's prices.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

I contacted Rokstok to get more information on the cut of these diamonds and here is the reply I got:

The first diamond is great if you want a 3/4ct and the 5th one is very nice if you want a 1ct. These 2 have the nicest cuts of the 9. I don't have images of these diamonds, our diamonds are mostly virtual and are listed on our website by our vendors. So we can't take pictures of them.

With him not being able to provide images of the diamonds, what other questions can I ask that will give us more info on the cut of these diamonds?

Also, Rokstok has a 30 day return policy. So if I end up ordering a dud I can always send it back to them.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

There is no possible way to order a diamond sight unseen unless it is an ideal cut round brilliant. You absolutely have to have pictures. These cushions may not even remotely look like the ones from Good Old Gold. I would suggest maybe considering a Beverley K setting and AVC from Good Old Gold which would hopefully reduce your setting price and allow for an AVC. I think it would be so sad to put a mediocre cushion into a setting as expensive as a Tacori 2620. I think you might tire of sending stones back and forth to try to find a good one, not to mention the expense of doing so.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

I wouldn't purchase a diamond from a vendor who can't provide images or more data, and just deal in a "virtual" inventory. You seem to want to purchase from Rokstok because of their lower price on the Tacori setting...however, it occurs to me that they're probably just making up the difference by overcharging for the diamond - which is supposed to be the "star" of your ring's show.

I would only want to do business with a company that can provide lots of information about the diamonds they are selling and give you the confidence of knowing you really got what you paid for. Otherwise, you'll be bringing in diamonds and having to hire an appraiser, then send back diamonds that are no good...lots of running around and added expense - and who knows how long it would take them to refund your money!

At least give GOG a chance to see what they can do with your budget. Also, like DS said, they may be able to recommend a different setting that closely resembles the Tacori you like at a better price. Good luck and let us know!

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

Also, just to point out, the prices for Tacori settings are set BY Tacori. As I understand it, they tend to get very upset when other jewelers alter the pricing of their settings at all. They're well known for having secret shoppers go into stores and try to haggle with a sales rep regarding the price of a Tacori setting, just to make sure their guidelines are being upheld.

Also, +1 for GOG; they're a great company and are very easy to work with.

Re: Please help me pick a diamond from Rokstok for a Tacori

From communicating with Rokstok, I can't seem to make any progress with them getting me pictures of any diamond I'm interested in.

Going back to GOG - what do you guys think of this diamond on a Tacori 2620 petite or small size setting: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8580/ (thanks for slg47 for recommending this one)

Feel free to recommend another one too from GOG
