I have been looking at numbers and putting some of them (when I have enough information) into the cut advisor all day and I just cannot get a clear understanding of everything. I have a splitting headache to boot. I am not trying to be lazy but I am hoping that some of you can come up with some contenders for me. What I want is an ideal or excellent cut round brilliant 2.00-2.25ish K, L, or M color, GIA certed and SI1 or SI2 clarity. I know I will have to check on eye cleanliness. There are many listed on here but I just can''t figure out how to know if the cut is good enough. If ya''ll can help me I will be forever indebted to you!

I''d love to help, but what''s your top dollar?

Look for a diamond within this range:

Total depth: 59 - 61.8%
Table diameter: 53 - 57%
Crown angle: 34.3 - 34.8 degrees*
Pavilion angle: 40.6 - 40.9 degrees*
Girdle: think to slightly thick
Culet: GIA none or AGS pointed

* other combinations of crown and pavilion angles will produce similar results, but this range will take the thought out of it... If the pavilion angle is a little steeper, then the crown angle should be a little shallower (for my taste)

^^ Nice stone.

Yes, it is gorgeous but I don''t want one that large and it''s out of the budget. I am wanting to spend between 8-10K. Thanks so much for your help.

Todd, thanks so much for the numbers. I am sure that info is on here somewhere but I hadn''t come across it and it is very helpful.

The 35.0 degree crown angle is a good offset for the 40.6 degree pavilion angle... Kimmy you can find this diamond by running a search on the diamond search engine here on PS, it's a 2.18 carat, L, VS-2, it will pop up right away if you enter the total depth of 61.6% and a table diameter of 57% - it is currently listed by four different vendors. I suggest working with one of them who will provide you with detailed analysis of the diamond - when a diamond is listed by multiple vendors it usually means that they are not in possession of the diamond (although one of them might be) and it is in the possession of the cutter - so visit their web sites and see which one has a personality that appeals to you and who can provide you with things like clarity photographs, etc. and ask them to pull it in for you. You can put a copy of the lab report up here on PS once you obtain a copy of it, but note that I can't comment on it beyond what I have thus far due to forum rules. Note that we are not offering to represent the diamond, we're strictly a "house of ideal" and don't represent GIA Very Good / Very Good - but that's just us appealing to our perfectionist personalities...

Thank you all so much! Now I am not feeling so overwhelmed by the process. I have great news for my budget too. I went to a B & M yesterday and looked at a couple of stones to get an idea about size and I found that I really think I want one from 1.75 to 2.00. Even though I have a size 9 finger and was assuming I needed the biggest stone possible I realized that for my lifestyle and circle of friends and family that getting over 2cts by very much would not feel comfortable to me. We do a lot of ministry to down and out people and are business owners in the homebuilding industry which is not too hot right now unfortunately. Anyway, I just don''t want to look like I spent gazillions on a diamond when things are hard for everyone. So....I am going be looking at the 1.75ish diamonds now. Thanks so much for your help and have a wonderful day!!!
