Hi I would really appreciate your help and expertise. I have to go to work soon so I cannot make this super long but here is my version of a long story short. My fiancée purposed to me with a beautiful diamond 1.16 ideal cut SI1 J color. In the blue nile 4 prong comfort setting in white gold size four. I wasn’t crazy about the setting and it was too big. I don’t have a ton of money I had a jeweler put it on a 2mm band and I did not like that any better and they did a poor job. I like the clean simple lines of the solitaire and how it really showcases the diamond. I also love how the four prongs look. So I have decided that I was going to buy a platinum setting in the right size. I think that if a human works on it there is always going to be a chance for error and I have gotten obsessive about it looking perfect. I also hate the idea of the white gold needing the rhodium plating so often.
I looked for websites that just sold palladium setting but you always had to buy a diamond and I already have a diamond I love. So please help me with these two settings. They cost the same. Some specific questions I have is that the one from my solitaire goes in a little right where the diamond is and the other one does not. The current setting I have does that and I think that it looks nice but I really do not know any other way. Does this make the diamond look bigger? Also opinions on 2.5 mm versus 2.8 mm.
Now I am totally changing subjects but I am a RN and the solitaire is proving a little difficult. I also find myself having to take it off to wash my hair ect. I like the idea of semi or maybe even full bezel setting but they all seemed pretty expensive and chunky. I would like the band width to be less than 3 mm if possible. Also my fiancée said that he felt that these setting hid the diamond too much. Maybe a semi bezel.. If anyone has pictures or ideas about that I would love it. Really simple is what I most prefer. I don’t like cathedral type settings. I will try and post some pictures of the solitaire settings. I want to do this and do it right instead of keep messing with it.
Does anyone know a good jeweler in Bremerton Wa or the area. I did receive a rec on one in Seattle but that is a good hour from me. It might prove to be worth it. Thanks so much Leslie
