So we bought a diamond and a setting that we thought we would like but unfortunately now that it has arrived the setting looks nothing like the pictures. From the pictures online it looked very simple and low profile, but once we received it it accidentally stabbed me in the eye. We like the diamond a lot, but are going to return the setting and don’t see any other settings we like at that vendor where we bought the diamond. All we are looking for is a simple solitaire six prong platinum 950 ruthenium band For under $1400. The diamond is 8.39 mm if that makes a difference. Thank you.

People seem to like the Stuller Solstice ... I think someone said it’s around $1000

I’m not sure where is the best place to get it from, Good Old Gold sourced a Stuller setting for me and have the Soltice on their site in the gold version ... I bet they can get it in platinum for you.

I see what you mean about putting your eye out ... hmmm ... I really don’t like your current setting either - sorry! I’m sure you’ll find something much prettier!

This is the Vatche U113 - a very popular six prong Tiffany style ring that is substantial yet delicate. It is a bit over your price point but a worthy contender nonetheless. It is set at a medium height and you'd never have to worry about resetting again. Cheaper in white gold but this one is in platinum. Lots of folks here have gotten this setting and loved it!

The mrs. likes that one a lot but a little out of our price range especially because will have to get the larger size due to the carat weight.

Yeah we were pretty shocked when we opened the box. However it would be a very effective self-defense tool.

Very unelegant...almost like the bench just got out of school.

Cost $100 to set an outside stone plus yours is probably going to be another $100 because its bit. Here is a few. They do have others. I had them set
a stone and they did a great job.

Stuller has a few newer solitaries that are nice and most any jeweler can order them for you. Keep in mind that if you are having your ring reset by a jeweler that you did not buy your diamond from you will likely need to insure your diamond privately while it is being set as few jewelers will take responsibility for an expensive third party diamond while setting it. Jeweler’s Mutual is a company many of the forum have used and you can also get a rider on your home or renter’s insurance as well.

All of them (especially the 3C designs) can be customized to your stone size even if it is not listed.

Maybe the vendor you originally bought the diamond from can order Stuller settings as well even if they don’t actively promote them? Might be worth a try and spare you the hassle and cost of insurance etc.
