I'm getting a custom setting for the H VVS1 that I posted earlier. (Link to thread at bottom.)

Well...I thought the designer at JA knew what I meant by French cuts, but they thought I meant pave! So, they were just going to make the ring with princess cuts in the channel setting. If I hadn't asked whether they had cut the frenchies themselves or outsourced them, I'd have been shocked to get princess cut side stones.

I had wanted something like this: http://www.victorcanera.com/the-anya-solitaire-with-french-cut-diamonds..

Now, it looks like I'm out in the cold. The Victor Canera "Anya" setting is way out of my budget of $2500 for the setting. I'm really not a fan of just going with the princess cuts, so I feel like I should abandon ship and begin all over.

I'm at a loss as to what I want. I do know that it must be UNIQUE (more than a solitaire), and no halo, no colored stones, no excessive mill graining or engraving, no yellow or rose gold, and it must show off the center stone. I'm getting an old mine because the cut is vintage-y and I want to show off that special uniqueness.

I am in NO way an artist or creative type person, so please throw out any suggestions. All are welcome!

I would recommend giving ERD a call, explain what you are looking for in a setting, and see if they can produce something within your budget.

Honestly if you don't have the budget for it now and THAT is your dream ring. I would put it in a temp setting and save up until you can either afford the VC setting or have another vendor do it exactly the way you want with french cuts. I think unless you fall in love with another design you won't be happy with the end result of this.

Well, in case you really do decide to scrap it and start something different, I think this gorgeous setting fits all your criteria...not sure if traps and bullets would be a problem for JA too...that would be a question for someone who knows more. ;)

Here's a setting I would consider, it's not french cuts but would look great with your diamond. Not too vintage looking and you could ask them to leave off the milgrain. It's by Bev K, lots of people on here have settings from them. This is a link to a jeweler in NY.

Here's a link to the BevK site: http://www.beverleyk.com/

Pearlmans carries the brand and can have it set for you. They are fantasic to work with. I also bought my diamond from JA & then picked a setting from a brand they carry (Sholdt) and it was very easy to get the diamond set thru them.

Look thru the settings and see if any others interest you. I linked to greenwich because they have great pics of the settings. But would buy thru Pearlmans. They offer a PS discount.

I edited to add another setting by BevK: http://www.greenwichjewelers.com/shop/category/rings/products/beverley-k-square-bezel-set-diamond-engagement-ring

They could leave off the milgrain and either bezel (as shown) or prong set the center stone.

I agree. That VC setting was amazing!

Niel - I was going to suggest carre cut diamonds too. Not cheap, but beautiful. And vintagey without being too pretty and flourishy.

I also second the recommendation for a temp setting until you can afford the setting you really really want. The VC setting is gorgeous.

Well, I scrapped the JA purchase in favor of GOG AVC. I'm going to design a setting very similar to what I have seen them do, which I love. :wavey:

do you have a link to that setting??

This is the video that started it all!

My ring will be MUCH smaller in scale. I want the same crown, prongs, and pave on the crown, but I'm open to suggestions on the band. I don't want a plain band. GOG had many pretty settings in many of their videos, so I'm counting on the salesperson to help me with suggestions too.

This is the diamond I'm 99% sure I'm going with. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10730/

oh thats beautiful! id keep the shank that way if they cab bring it down to your proportion, im just not sure how thin it would have to be, and if they have french cuts to go that thin, but i would imagine.

Bah i was voting for the I. I think how its elongated and its larger would really help with that setting, you will get enough vertical coverage having french cuts in the band, i would think an elongated one would be overall ore flattering, because it helps with the vertical finger coverage. But that G is for sure lovely! Id just hate for you to spend so much on a setting only to get DSS in 2 years. ;)

Oh my gosh, that is going to be beyond beautiful!

Is this ring made by GOG? Yummy!

How does the pricing compare to VC, LM, SK on this setting? Very tempting.

Yes, it's GOG. I don't know how the prices compare because I'm waiting on my quote from GOG. I'm getting two quotes. One for a mini version and one for a 3-stone setting with frenchies.

I'm excited, but today DH bummed me out. He doesn't understand why I'm set on AVC/GOG rather than just going to Costco and getting a bigger carat. I think Costco only offers IGI grading.

We'll get what I want, which is a diamond that really sparkles and catches the eye rather than a hum drum diamond that doesn't do much outside of spotlights.
