Hi there,

I am quite confused about various pave styles. Can anyone please tell me what this specific style of pave is called? Where it is slightly saw-toothed or jagged from the profile view, not smooth metal? Is it fishtail pave...or? Many pics below...thank you!

Hi,

Thank you for your replies! I am not sure that fishtail pave is what is in all the pictures though. The halo in the second photo for instance does not look like the fishtail pave. It doesn''t have quite as jagged of a profile. Hmmm.

I agree, the pictures don''t all look the same to me. Are you having a custom ring made? I would suggest taking in pictures if you are and simply point out "i like this, but not that, etc." and go from there. I don''t think there is any true "standardization" in the terminology out there, so best to just go by what you like!

FishTail or Vcut Pave or Harry Winston Pave is 4 prong Pave. All the pictures are 2 prong or shared prong pave. It is hard to tell as we don't have good closeups at the correct angle but it looks like the cuts in the side are mostly V shaped but the cuts in the band in the middle of the 3 pictures looks more U shaped. Even though the cuts in the side are U shaped or V shaped but this should be confused with the 4 prong V Cut Pave where adject prongs make up a cut V. In shared prong like the above the prongs are larger because they have to hold two diamonds in place instead of one.
