Hi

If this has been answered multiple times could someone link me a post otherwise please explain some things for me.

I'm looking to buy a e-ring online I've looked at the various websites jamesallen, white flash n etc but I want it to be a sapphire ring. Jamesallen and etc seem to have a pretty high mark up on loose sapphires they advertise in comparison to say multicolour.com.

So are there any online vendors who will buy the stones from multicolour or similar site and set or combine the gem and ring.

I guess a good example of this is davidweins site where you can pick the gem from multicolour and have it made on his actual websites, I understand he runs both sites and am just wondering if there's any other options out there.

Sorry if this post is confusing or repetitive thanks for any future replies

There are several designers/benches that will set your CS from another vendor into a setting you have them create or order from stock, though they may charge a setting fee. And you should also ask whether they will or will not insure your stone while in their possession in the event of damage/loss. If they order the stone from MC themselves on your behalf, I suspect there will be some markup there as well. I would just ask those designers/benches I was interested in working with what their policies are. Personally, I prefer to buy my own CSs and have them set separately because I am particular, and I just like to do things like this on my time & terms. :wavey:

This has been covered in the past but is now scattered around somewhere.

Many of us purchase the coloured stone separately, then send it off to be set for various reasons:
1. More options
2. Better quality
3. Better pricing

Scroll all the way down for the latest post. You can shop with the vendors, then review the stone in person to confirm that IS what you want, then send if off to be set.

How to evaluate coloured stones:

Alternatively, if you don't mind sharing your requirements and budget, many members will be more than happy to spend your money....ahem, help steer you towards the right stone.

Thanks for the fast reply I did try looking through past posts but didn't have much success. I mainly wanted a blue sapphire e-ring, my gf likes the paved shank style. Ild probably only want to spend between $1500-2000aud maybe 2.5k at the most if it was really nice.

I'll check out those vendors now

Edit: I'm looking for more stores like this http://diamondzonejewelry.com that have rings unset

And I think stones like this http://www.ajsgem.com/sapphire/blue-sapphire/blue-sapphire-1.32-carats.html-0

That works out to $1.5K USD. Does this include the setting? What about import taxes?

The DZ settings are very thin and will not hold up to everyday wear.
The AJS sapphire has issues.

Can you please share your expectations / wants for this ring?
Shape?
mm size?

The $2000 would include import tax and everything, expectations are I guess a nice coloured sapphire not to worried if it has slight inclusions. The Girlfriend doesn't know anything about stones and as long as it's shiny she's happy, for example we went and had a look in some mall jewellery store at 9ct gold junk and she was loving the pieces. I think she more just wants to get engaged and whatever the rings design/look she will be happy.

So I guess in short expectations are sapphire, white gold, paved shank design.

Edit: something like this but with a blue sapphire

That seems like a tight budget for your list. I have never purchased anything from this store but JuliaB jewelry on etsy would be a good place to look. She seems to have a few things that are close to your budget? Maybe ask others here if they have been satisfied with her work. Good Luck!

Its a tight budget, but not impossible if you aren't being overly picky about the stone.

Maybe something like this sapphire: https://mastercutgems.com/Products-...l_Blue_Sapphire_1_20_carat-Gem.php?FromPage=1

With this setting: http://idjewelry.com/0-48ct-f-g-si-...nd-engagement-setting-in-14kt-white-gold.html

I think this may be true for some of their stock/auction settings. However, I purchased a custom setting from them which feels quite sturdy and I don't imagine it will have any issues with holding up. I've not seen any complaints from people who've purchased custom DZ settings, so I think as with all things the quality will vary depending on whether you pay $150 or $650 for the setting.

What about this stone from jeff Davies

http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=321898720761&category=4644&pm=1&ds=0&t=1455913685661

Also do all I need is a ring and a gem or is there some third component I need to make a complete ring?

That stone may have a small window, it may close up in a setting - but you should reach out to Jeff and ask specifically about it. His prices are lower if you don't go through eBay - that same stone is $465 on his Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/342555115386525715/

If you reach out to him directly he can do the setting as well, you can definitely ask him about that as well if you decide to purchase the sapphire through him.
