Hi everyone- this is my very first post on Pricescope! :) Hope you all can excuse my ignorance- I have been reading and reading- and it is so wonderful and informative but overwhelming!
So my bf of 3 years- asked to go ring shopping a couple weeks ago! :) We went to Baily Banks and Biddle and saw a beautiful ering, it seemed like THE one- I could sense he wanted to buy it right then and there- 2.01 radiant cut diamond G color VS1- with 2 half moon sidestones also G/ VSI equaling a total of .67 for both. Total price of ring $26000.
I know there is a huge markup for the BBB name- doing a little research it seems to be a bit higher in range- but not outrageous right?
Any thoughts- if he were to negotiate a price (by paying full cash) does anyone know what type of discount these stores can offer? Also, does anybody knowledgable know if this is the correct price range- I know I have read that shopping for the diamonds on the internet would get the most for the money- where would we start? I know that he would love to get me a even bigger stone (although I am content with this size as we are also saving for a house) for that amount of money- sorry for the beginner''s ignorance- could anyone lead us in the right direction? Any advice would be appreciated- TIA!

pricing depends on how attractive the stones are, and what lab issued a report.

It is difficult to comment on price since without more specific information. If you want people to comment on the stone, please post information from the certificate. Is it GIA, AGS, or EGL? dimensions, crown %, pavillon % etc. Any information you have. That will help people here comment on your stone.

All I can say is don''t be in a rush to buy a ring. do your homework and decide what you really want and then you won''t have any regrets later.

Good Luck and congrats on your future engagement.

We can''t possibly say if this is a good deal or not without some more details about the stone and the setting. What are the cut specs on the center stone? If it''s cut well it''s worth substantially more than if it''s cut really deep and faces up small.

First guess makes me think it''s overpriced by a few thousand.

I have half moons and I love them

... Since the ring you saw is in a chain store and they can get another one if need be, why not shop around until you're sure that's the one you absolutely love! The price seems high for what it is. Does it have a GIA cert?

BBB may negotiate, but don''t get your hopes up. Please get all the info on the stones, then we can be of more assistance to you.

Thank you, I will get more details and come back- I DO know it is GIA- but in regards to dimensions etc- I am not sure!

Welcome to PS

Also it is difficult to judge Radiants with the numbers, your own eyes will have to make the actual decision as to whether it is the diamond for you. Numbers can help you avoid buying a diamond which is way too deep for example, but there are many out there who have Radiants which fall out of suggested proportions and are gorgeous stones.

Read Dave Atlas' great page on advice for buying fancy shapes, it also has some cut class charts linked for further assistance.
