SO excited to have our very own AVC from GOG- thanks to the PS'ers who helped with THAT hurdle :)

Now BGD is working on CAD's of a slightly modifed version of his fishtail pave setting, and we are trying to decide between platinum and white gold. I understand white gold may need to be re-dipped every year (or less often, depending on body chemistry), but what are the drawbacks to platinum? Price isn't the concern- we've already decided we'd rather pay more up front if it's worth it for the platinum, rather than shipping back to BGD every year for upkeep on white gold since they have to do the re-dipping to keep the warranty intact.

Looks-wise, does anyone have any comparison photos between white gold & platinum, or photos of what the "patina" looks like that platinum takes on? I think I would actually PREFER the metal to not be super shiny but I'm not sure. Also to consider, we'd like his wedding band to be made of the same metal, of which a lot more metal would be visible than on my e-ring & wedding band.

Thanks for any and all opinions!

I took photos of the patina developing every month w/ my old plat ring - pics in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/platinum-vs-white-gold.147732/#post-2668608

Since it is a pave setting there will be little if any metal showing, really. I doubt dipping will be an issue with wg on the small amount that shows. Unless you care about the inside of your ring ;)) Have you asked BGD if they think one metal is better than the other for that setting?

Have you tried on rings in person to get a feel for your own color preference?

I somehow missed that it will have pave - in that case, ditto dreamer - don't think it matters appearance-wise! But one metal may have setting or workmanship benefits over the other, best ask BGD as dreamer advises.

thanks all! they basically said it was up to my personal preference so I will prob spend some time researching pics- again :)

I posted some pictures recently in another thread. This ring has been worn daily since March 2009. It hasn't quite been a year. You can see the patina around the shank. It looks more noticeable in the picture than in real life. When she is wearing it, you can't see it. I heard something while trying to decide whether to go with MG or Pt.
I was told it buffs out to be like new (we haven't had to buff yet). Unlike white gold, you don't lose the platinum, it just gets shifted/moved over. Once it's buffed the existing metal fills in the ruts and makes it shiny again.
I can't confirm that for sure.

The other thing that is noticeable with the Pt is the weight. It feels very heavy compared to its size.

After purchasing the Pt, we found it to be worth the money and would do so again.
