Hi;

If anyone has pictures to share of their diamond ring polished in matte vs glossy polished look, can i ask you to upload photos? I am really debating as I really like the grey look and am wondering if that will make the diamond shine more?

mine is almost 1 1/2 carat center stone in Tiffany setting.

I believe that matte look is developed over time from wear. It's called "patina". I'm sure there are designs that incorporate this look, but you'll achieve the same thing over time with a polished ring; assuming you don't have it repolished.

You can have a brushed or Matt finish applied to your platinum if that's what you like.

This is the second thread you've started about wanting grey platinum to make your diamond stand out. Where did you get your diamond? Is it well cut?

Regardless of setting color a well cut diamond will shine

I don't know if this is any help but about a year ago I bought myself another e-band for cold weather as during winter time my ring size is smaller. This pic was taken right after I received the new band. The thicker band is palladium and polished, the narrow band is platinum and has been worn for about a year daily with no mercy (=everywhere). If you look at my fingers reflecting from the rings you can see the difference the best.

I love the patina that forms on platinum :love: my wedding band looks like yours after about 8 months of constant wear.

If you want a brushed finish, lots of jewelers can apply that to you ring. It's also easy to switch from a brushed to a shiny finish if you don't like it.

Both finishes will converge towards the same patina-ed look over time though, so whether you start from one end or the other, you'll end up somewhere in the middle. Luckily, your jeweler should be able to easily refinish a platinum ring.

I think if you're curious about a brushed finish, just try it out.

+1!! I love it too! I feel that it shows that the ring gets loved. 8-)

As SMC said... whether you go for polished or matte band it will in time get develop patina. Some people love it, others hate it.

thank you all everyone for your helpful comments. I think I will get it matte finished as I am eager to see the difference. Come to think of it my platinum sets may have been rhodium polished by my jewelers when I had gone to get the diamond cleaned. Again, thanks everyone for the comments.

Hi Maisie, yes my diamond is well cut and does shine. However; come to think of it, i think it must be the quality of the tiny side stones that may not be doing justice to my ring. I might just have to get the design redone.

I don't know if you have considered this but I find a polished band to be more forgiving of scratches whereas any scratches tend to stand out more in a matte finish.
