I just looked and realized "PS" doesn''t have an official ''anniversary'' section! I think we need one...after all, lots of us get DIAMONDS and jewelry for our anniversaries!

And couples also plan vow renewals too! Anyone else think we need an ''anniversary'' section?

Anyway...

I am planning two anniversary parties, one for my parents 60th (The DIAMOND anniversary!!!), and for my in-laws 50th! Going a bit crazy, as they are only a week apart and I''m hosting both at my house!

My in-laws already celebrated their 50th in California with BIL & SIL and they all went to Maui for 11 days together...DH and I weren''t there, so we are having a dinner party for them at our house to celebrate with them and to see all of their trip pictures.

But while in the midst of planning this party, I realized MY parents are going on SIXTY years, in February...but since they live in Florida in the winter months, I decided to have an early SURPRISE party for THEM before they leave in October!

My mother is going to be TOTALLY shocked, she knows I am planning a party for my in-laws, but in actuality it is MY praents party that week! I postponed the in-laws party until the following week. My mom is going to flip when she walks in to find 40 people here, for HER 60th anniversary, which isn''t until February, LOL!

Anyway, I am having FUN planning all of this! I come from a big family so all of my siblings are on board with food and things...my sister is making a huge keepsake scrapbook style photo album of my parents, their wedding, all the kids, spouses and grand-kids (17 grand-kids, going to be a big book!)...it''s going to be an ''elegant'' style, not cutsie, which was important to me...my oldest niece is ordering the ''wedding cake'' style cake today...I''ve been sick with bronchitis all week and haven''t gotten out anywhere, but hopefully I''ll be able to get out next week to get all of the decorations, etc. I plan to order a really pretty cake topper too.

And my mom, knowing I''ve been sick, offered to help me get the house ready or to help cook for the party! LOL, it''s HER party!

We''ll have a smaller dinner for my in-laws, about 14 people, DH has a smaller family, so it will be more formal dinner and hopefully less pressure to pull off, but I still plan to have a wedding cake for them too.

Anyway, just wanted to share my fun! The BEST part is the surprise!! Can''t wait to see their reaction!!

What fun, Ara Ann! Wow, 60 years. That''s amazing.
Not to mention the 17 grandchildren. I''ve always wanted a big family, it sounds like you are going to have a blast!

Yep Haven, 60 years is amazing...seven kids (I''m the youngest!) and 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, with two more on the way! Quite a legacy. They are terrific parents and grandparents and my DH always tells everyone he has the BEST in-laws in the world...I agree!

I hope this all turns out, but whatever happens it will be fun.

you are awesome! What a wonderful surprise and how wonderful --- 50 AND 60 year annies! That is very special indeed!

Thanks tlh!

Having cake issues today...can''t seem to find a good bakery that isn''t going to charge us a fortune for a small wedding cake. We only need one big enough for 40 people and one place said we''d have to get their 65 slice size...at $2.00 a piece, that''s a lot of extra cake! Yikes! And funny, I was telling my mom about the cake woes, and she''s thinking it''s for my in-laws cake! She has NO clue! This is GREAT!

And I went through all of our old family pictures today, for the memory book...that was a hoot too! My sons got a kick out of their baby pics and seeing my old high school ID card, LOL...can''t wait to see the book all put together!

Ara Ann, I forgot to acknowledge the 60th anniversary of your parents

Thank you Isabel!

Like I mentioned in the other thread, the party went better than I had even hoped! My parents were/are thrilled...except my mom was mad she hadn''t had her hair done, LOL!

And a neat coincidence. We ordered a small wedding cake and I really had it in my head that I wanted a square cake! I kept looking for one I really liked (online, from local bakeries) and finally found one I loved. Well, while looking at my parents'' wedding album at the party, I noticed their wedding cake was SQUARE! It was a 4 tier square cake! I couldn''t believe it! I haven''t looked at their album in several years and I had ZERO recollection of her cake, maybe subliminally I remembered it, but I thought it was pretty neat! And she loved the anniversary cake too... We topped it with fresh, small, pale pink roses and a large lucite ''diamond'', which represented the diamond anniversary...it turned out really pretty!

As for the 50th dinner party for my in-laws...looks like it''s not happening...at least not for a while...MIL is ''busy'' this weekend.

Oh well...I tried.

How fun! Congrats to your family. Have fun planning the events, I''m sure they''ll be spectacular.

We celebrated my grandparents'' 50th anniversary 2 years ago with a huge event on our family farm. It was wonderful.

We celebrated DH''s parents'' 40th anniversary last fall with a catered dinner for 25 people at a local restaurant. It was wonderful as well. Soooo many stories were told. They had a wonderful time.
