Hi all,

I got this pink tourmaline awhile ago:

http://www.gemselect.com/tourmaline/tourmaline-179337.php

I''ve been looking for good settings. I bid on a LOGR setting a few weeks ago and wasn''t around when it ended and lost by $2.00.

Now he''s got the buy it now price for twice as much as the previous auction went for, and I don''t want to pay that much.

What do you think about this setting:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390023838572&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

He said it would be an additional $50 to make it the size I need [7x9 instead of 8x10]. Is this price worth it?

Thanks in advance!!

whoops, I misspelled the name in the thread title...sorry

What a lovely pink tourmaline, you should post pics of it. Here's a setting that would fit your stone exactly, and it's $299, but if you pay the $50 upgrade, the setting you want would be $250, so they're not too far apart in price, and I like this setting better and it has around three times the amount of diamonds.

Thanks! I will take pics soon and post them.

I do like the setting you posted. Do you think it''s worth that much? You don''t think it will look too "chunky" with the stone?

This is the one I lost by 2 bucks -

This is the one I really want, but he says it can''t be made for 7x9:

And when I say "worth that much" I guess I mean, a good value for the money. I''ve read that his settings can vary a lot in quality, and I hope that this one would be one of the good ones...

The reason I like the setting I picked out is because your stone is a lighter blush color of pink (correct me if I''m wrong), so a lighter stone does really well in a more closed up gallery, and the white of the pave will really make it pop and I think look stunning.

I like the setting you posted as well, but I should warn you about auctions. If they sell too low, he might substitute the diamonds with really cloudy ones. That has happened to people that win on auctions when the price is too low. However, if you''re set on that one, he usually relists the same settings over and over on auctions, so if you are patient, you might win it after all.

I think if you pay with the BIN price, he typically gives you very good quality because that's his asking price for the setting. When people win them too low, he has to cut costs on the settings, which I suspect he does by using inferior diamonds. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's a hit or miss when people win them on auction.

The reason I like the LOGR's is because for the money, I think I've received some really good value. I always upgrade the diamonds though.

Wow, that sucks! Glad I didn''t win then, I guess!!

Thanks for the advice, that makes sense. I am very new to this and didn''t want to spend a whole lot of money on the first one...but at the same time, I want the final product to look decent!

The one you posted is doable, and I think it would look good! I will probably get that, and will be sure to post pics of the final project!

Thanks again, you''re always so helpful!! :)

That sounds like it makes sense to me, as sucky as it is.
I won a legacy style one early on when the auctions still went very cheap, and didn''t like the diamonds or metal once it arrived.
Maybe there is some rhyme n reason to it after all, lol..
