I decided to check out Brad's 'Pink Fire' Quartz that was in his recent listings. I would like to set it in a ring, but it has a big belly(with a keel)-so would have to end up sitting really high off the finger---at least 8-9mm.

I guess my first question is, does anyone have any pieces of 'Pink Fire' quartz set?

Secondly, does anyone have any rings that sit really high off your finger that don't drive you crazy? What kind of setting are they in? I am wanting to set it E-W and bezeled. The face is almost flat, only slightly raised-so it is not a domed cab as the picture looks.
Thanks Pink%20Fire%20Quartz.gif

Very cool stone SCN!

So the back of the stone is like a faceted stone? Am I understanding that right? What about something like the Katie setting from JKT? I also remember one of Uli's stones that was set by Janish that had closed in sides if you were thinking more of an enclosed setting. It looked nice if you don't mind not having a pavilion view.

Confession - I have 3 pieces of pink fire quartz and would have bought yours too if I wasn't unemployed (oooh, the temptation!). I love this material.

All of mine are very different shapes from yours (one of the reasons why I was so tempted, since I love large ovals), but I have a large grey moonstone set EW that might help you. Very plain setting, since the stone takes up all my finger width. I will dig up some pics when I get home.

That’s a very unique and cool piece and something I’d do in a plain setting since it’s so huge plus it’ll allow the inclusions to make a statement on its own. I like the idea of E/W bezel but if the piece sits very high, that’s going to be a lot of metal unless you leave the pavilion open.

Fantastic work!

Thanks-it is really interesting! I originally thought that the stone was a cabachon and was suprised when I recieved it that its face was almost flat and the bottom was similar to a facted stone in shape. I will work on a photo of the pavilion.

It is really interesting and fun to play with! I'd love any pics :)

I am definately planning on a simple setting with an open pavilion, I am not one for liking stones that sit high off the finger with closed pavilions unless they have some sort of interesting metal work. And E-W it will be, because of how the inclusions are located-they seem to show more flash from side to side than top to bottom and I really want to be able to enjoy looking at them myself :)
