I am inquiring some professional feedback on this ring. It was given to me after my grandmother passed. It was bought for her in 1954 in Globe/Miami Arizona for her 16th birthday by her dad at Jim Bernstein’s jewelry store. I am told that it is a true pigeon blood ruby and am looking for others professional thoughts and opinions. I have read multiple articles that tell me the more blue/purple hue to the ruby the higher the value and significant or rare the ruby is. Just looking for some solidification or clarity on the matter, carat size and unofficial appraisal maybe. Thank you, so much!

I would have it examined by GIA or AGL that:
1. It isn't synthetic
2. It isn't glass filled
3. It isn't BE diffused

Huge yes to this!

@CrowBar that's a lovely ring. Unfortunately, it's not possible to appraise a gemstone by photos.

With Rubies colour is important but origin and treatment even more important.
It’s not possible for anyone to assess a Ruby from a photo unfortunately.
You would need to send the ruby to a reputable lab for assessment. The AGL (American Gem Lab) can provide you with a Gem Brief advising if it natural or not and if there is evidence of treatments (heating or glass filling) for $85 while the Ruby is set in the ring. That’s for a ruby under 3 carats. Over this carat weight it is $180.
If you want a full report including origin they are $270 if under 3 carat and $445 is over 3 carat.
You would do a gem brief first to make sure it isn’t a synthetic or a highly treated Gem before spending extra money.
Unfortunately man made rubies are everywhere, there are the exact same material as a natural, from the ground Ruby, but made instead in a lab. The man made rubies test and look just like a natural ruby, it’s only under a microscope assessed by a trained gemologist can the differences be identified.
A man made ruby is still beautiful and will wear very well but obviously aa a man made stone the ring is worth only a fraction of what a ring with a natural ruby is worth.

I see 10k inside the band.
This leads me to believe that the stone is synthetic.
High quality gems are not usually set into low karat gold.
But it's a pretty ring!

Good catch! Can’t believe I missed that.
