Picking up dog poop

I have two wonderful neighbors who don't bother picking up their dogs little treasures. On second thought, I shouldn't say little because they're far from "little".

It's gotten to the point where one neighbors dog is pooping only a couple feet away from my door, right next to my bushes.

It's annoying, disgusting, and it smells.

Sometimes I have to walk my dog when it is already dark out and I've stepped in dog poop numerous times because its basically a land mine out there.

Ok, I'm done now.

Have any of you had this problem?

I've complained more than once to the association.

I can't wait to move into a single home

I ALWAYS pick up. I even have one of those handy bag dispensers on my leash.
I live in an apartment complex and there are plenty of people that don't pick up.
A man with a great dane doesn't pick up after his dog. I've seen him just walk away after the dog poops. And let me tell you, those are some BIG piles!
Other than it being inconsiderate, it is also germy and can cause diseases for dogs and humans to be tracking feces all over the place.
I feel your pain.

As my SO would say, the great dane is giving birth to meatloaf, huh? haha.

I even put up a little sign near my door that said, "Please pick up after your dog. ITS RUDE NOT TO."

In my parents neighborhood they have these bag dispensers with a trashcan attached...and they're everywhere, yet people STILL don't pick up. I don't get it. Sheer laziness?

Pick it up for them.
Pack it in a box.
Mail it to them.
Or perhaps "return" it to them in some other creative way.

I've done this before. I scooped it up, put it on their doorstep and left a note. Took them 3 times before they got sick of it and started cleaning up.

I was going to say what Kenny and Nashville said. I would pick it up, deposit it on their doorstep (right in front of the door) and maybe put an empty ziploc bag next to it as a hint. Turnabout is fair play.

KENNY. I love you, hahahahahahah.

I actually was going to put it in a ziplock bag and set it on their doorstep. Thoughts? :)

Whoops! Didn't read the other posts before posting this.

I will be doing the ziplock bag thing soon.

Should I light it on fire too? You know, so they can get the nice aroma of dog poop like I do every morning before leaving my house. I'll put it on the doorstep, light it, ring the doorbell and then run away :)

Just kidding

Laziness, yes. And people think it's gross.
I once heard a grown man at the dog park talking about how he doesn't like to stick his hand in a bag to pick up poop because it's gross. You're a grown man! It's just poop! Be a responsible dog owner! Ugh. Some people.
I would rather pick up dog poop and clean a litter box than change a baby diaper. But that's just me.
I like the "put it on the doorstep" idea.

You could collect it for a month, freezing it, and at the end of the month allow it to defrost en masse on their stoop, in front of their driver's side door etc...

This is a very very good idea. The only problem is that SO likes to go into the freezer a lot....what if he by accident mistakes it for something else :errrr: :errrr: :errrr: :errrr: :errrr: :naughty:

unfortunately, living in a single family home doesn't eliminate the rude people who don't pick up after their animals.
People seem to let their cats roam all over the neighborhood and leave little presents too. Smaller, but still gross and a pain to have
to look for when you want to mow the lawn.

I would leave it on their doorstep as well. No excuse. Once, maybe a mistake, multiple times, time for flaming poop on the
doorstep.

I fantasize about having a fenced in backyard...but that probably won't eliminate the whole problem either :(

"uhhhhhhhhhh dear"
"yeah"

"nevermind, just don't eat any more, I'll go buy some better stuff later"
"oh ok, thanks, you're the best."

I eat really healthy so he'd probably say something like "what was that crap (lol) you bought? it tasted like $hit. I bet its one of your fat free ice creams you bought, right?"

Yup, fat free it is!

Ewww.
You guys have me thinking of the ending of that film, "Pink Flamingos". :o :knockout:

Autumnovember wrote to light it on fire.....did that once and let me tell you they came running out of the house to a lit bag on fire. They started to stomp on it to put it out. Never had to pick up dog poo again.

This would really upset me, I'm sorry you have to deal with strange dog poo.

If it were me, I would ring their bell and ask them to kindly begin picking up the dog poop. If they didn't, I would file a complaint with the village/city/town/etc.

I walked past a repugnant, um, deposit on my way home tonight. If I knew who was responsible, you can bet your sweet bippy I'd be tempted by this! I say do it.

Also, I think Gothgrrl's suggestion wins the day. Brown paper bag, perhaps?

M-m-m...this day and age, you risk being charged for "trespassing", malicious mischief or something with a word "indecent" in it. And then you'll be facing a long lawsuit involving samples of dog's DNA to prove that the doo came from their dog and not yours. :D
Tough. We had to fence our yard because neighbor's dog used to run in our yard leaving "thank you" notes everywhere. The neighbor stopped talking to us after that although we gave him a good reason: our child was small, and there was a hill on the other side of the house. We used to be such good neighbors.

Im thread jacking my own thread but this brings up something interesting...

Although I'm still considered 'young' isn't it crazy how much has changed? In terms for neighbors, I mean.

I remember when I was little things were so different. There were block parties, neighbors were friends, kids would play outside with each other. It just FELT different. I don't see that anymore and I go between two different neighborhoods. It's a shame..

I've never seen an issue with lack of picking up poo here. However, I was once driving through Western Springs, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and witnessed two ladies letting their dogs leave their "leavings" and I hate to say this but I did yell out my car window "pick up the sh*t, b*tches!" Crass of me, yes...but there were no children around and really...someone needed to say something.

I love that.
How excellent!

Ahaha, love it. I wish I was in the car with you that day.

I would pick it up and leave it on their doorstep, they will get the hint very quickly.

I always pick up after my dog. The size of the dog does not matter. Feces can spread disease especially in non-inoculated or sick dogs.

My neighbor has a dog that roams the neighborhood because he is too lazy to replace the batteries in the dog's invisible fence collar (btw, I don't believe in invisible fences). I got sick of this dog pooping on my lawn. I had my video camera available and taped her pooping on the lawn. I picked it up and dumped it on their driveway just under the rear tires of their car. Then I contacted the police , gave them the video on a cd and the people were fined big time. (I also have other problems with their dogs. one of them went after my dog and other dogs a few times. A neighbor with a Great Dane has peppered sprayed one of them when the dog went after his)

It is a violation not to pick up after your dog in my town as well as roaming around not on a leash. Hopefully this neighbor will be escorted out of the neighborhood soon. He has a ton of people suing him (he's a developer) including the government for non-oayment of taxes.

Autumnnovember, is this happening where you live in PA? If so contact animal control and get their advice. I am not sure if it is the same person as you are in Montgomery Cty and I am in Bucks.

I would not advise depositing and lighting the bag on fire. You could be facing serious charges for starting a fire. Better yet, deposit it on the car, on their door step and definitely leave an unsigned note telling them they left something at your place that belonged to them and you just wanted to make sure it was returned to the rightful owner.

Can you take pictures of them 'not' picking it up?

Or, the most direct way - yell to them next time they are walking away "Hey, pick up your poop!"

I'm in the "nip it in the bud" camp and ask them directly to kindly pick up after their pets.

When D and I lived in a 2-family house a few years ago, the neighbors NEVER picked up after their dog and it was disgusting. As soon as you'd walk out our back door, the smell of dog poop would invade your nostrils (especially in the summer). When I saw them outside I asked them to please pick up after their dog and that I had a special trash can for poop (since we also had a dog) and they were welcome to use it. I was afraid they'd be annoyed at me and it might get worse, but luckily they started picking up after the dog. I feel for you!

I have a large dog so I know how much Sir Poops A Lot can discharge- with that being said our neighbors used to do the same thing. How did we remedy it? We asked, to no response. So? We teamed up, got some plastic gloves a big old plastic bag and proceeded to pick up all the poop and made a neat pile by their front door. Amazingly, they started picking up their poop.

Good times.

It sounds like you've asked, and reported it. I'd now dispense it on their doorstep, regularly, until they get the picture.
