I am going to visit friends of my family next week (partially because I haven't been to see them in a year and a half, and partially because, very sadly, one of them is very very ill and I wanted to see him.

Most of their family lives together within a few miles, so I will be seeing everyone--and DH, my brother and I are staying at one of their homes. There are 5 children combined--one is about 7 (girl), one just turned 10 (boy), and three of them are in the 12-13 range (2 girls and a boy). DH, my brother and I are all carrying on our luggage to save money (plus we will only be there for 3 nights), but I feel that I should bring gifts for all the children.

I am TERRIBLE at figuring out gifts and I'm running out of time. Does anyone have any idea as to what I can get for these kids which would fit in our carry-on bags? Could I get them all books? If so, does anyone have any idea what kinds of books kids are into these days  I am SO out of touch!!!

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

Just a few ideas...

Necklaces, bracelets or some form of jewelry for the girls.

Younger boy - crazy beans (toy), DVD
Older boys - cool wallet, CDs

My son is just about 10. He loves the Goosebumps books. Also as a bonus gift, there are silly bands. They're sold at stores, but the dollar stores have them too, in little packets of 10 for about $1.29 each. They're really "in" at my kids' school. So much so, that they've been banned from many classrooms. All the kids at sports practice wear them.

For the girl, Magic Treehouse books may work. Maybe ask her parents if she's read any of them. They're a series so she may have read some of them. . .both my kids have read books 1-43. My younger son started them the summer before first grade.

For the book idea, I recommend the Diary of the Wimpy Kid series, and I also second Silly Bandz.

Oh, yeah, Diary of a Wimpy kid is a good idea. Another one to check with parents on. (My 10-year-old is reading them right now. They do go super quick. We checked out 2, 3 & 4 on Tuesday and he's already finished them - that's why we go to the library mostly for kids' books.

Wondering what to buy for your favorite dinosaur fan this Christmas season?I got a good idea of giving a puzzle or treasure hunt as a gift and I had given it many times. It is also a good gift. You may try it from now onwards. It will be a great fun.

Magnets, paper air plane book, slide puzzles, choose your own adventure books, drawing stuff(sketch pads and cool pencils or pens)
