Ok, small and petty, but I hate it when people call melee diamonds "chips". They aren't chips - they are small facetted stones. To me, chips sound like they broke off while someone was cutting a larger diamond and it just grates on my nerves.

Ok, I am happier now that I got that off my chest.

+1 but some pieces of jewelry (the cheap stuff) really do look like chips.

I agree completely. My pave diamonds are not "chips"- someone actually took the time and energy to cut little tiny facets on each one!

hmm.. I always use that term to be funny... FI and I would always joke that if he had his choice he would have given me a diamond chip.. (as in, a piece that broke off) hahaha!

I don't know. Is it really a big deal? I really think of diamond chips as being low quality stones.. melee I think of being a bit nicer :)

Haha, I was actually just thinking this the other day.:) I just don't get it. Also don't like when someone wants to use it in the derogatory sense to describe a small engagement ring, "i.e. she only got a diamond chip". Maybe it's because my mom used to describe a promise ring I had that way, but it is irksome.

ed: grammar

For this exact reason, I find it extremely annoying! But that's okay ... the people that refer to them as "chips" just don't know better and probably aren't trying to be rude or anything.

I wonder how Leon would react if a client refered to his diamand melee as chips :angryfire:

I know that most people aren't trying to be rude or mean (although some are being condescending or dismissive, as Siamese Kitty mentioned). But it annoys me. Just as I am sure I annoy car afficionados a lot with my total lack of knowledge or interest :naughty:

But I would not mind having one of "Granny's Chips"

If you look up "Chip" in the dictionary it actually says: "6. a small cut or uncut piece of a diamond or crystal."

I don't really see that entirely negative
