The story: I didn''t originally want to look at this stone because it is more than I wanted to spend and is more rectangular than I thought I would like. But the vendor convinced me it was a must see, so he called it in for me along with three other much squarer cushions.
Well. In person it was simply fabulous--it made the other three diamonds sitting next to it look like dull hunks of glass. Far more brilliant than any cushion I''ve seen thus far (although admittedly, thats only about 10-12 total at this point). Needless to say, I fell in love, even though the stone alone is about as much as we were intending to spend for the whole darn shebang--pave custom setting included.
[Now, I will pause here to recommend to you all not to go out and "just look at" stones that are out of your price range. This is just not wise. Please learn from me. ; ) ]
In any event, the question is now, should we purchase the stone?
We''ve decided that we''re willing to exceed the budget (dontcha just love how i keep saying we, when i should really be saying he?) for an absolutely fabulous stone, but I really want to make sure this is it. The vendor (whom I trust very much) told me, only after I asked his opinion, that this is one of the best cut cushions he''s seen in around. BUT, I knew I couldn''t do anything without first soliciting the counsel of my fellow P-scopers. SO, my wise friends, here goes:
1) Do the specs look ok? (I know you''ve got to see em to really judge em, but does anything raise a red flag?)
2) Considering how well cut the stone appears to be, does the price seem fair?
3) If the stone looks great to my eye, do I need to do any of those funky tests you all are always talking about to assure myself that the cut is OK--i.e., lightscope, brilliantscope, whatever-else-scope--or is that more for RBs? and finally . . .
4) Am I jumping the gun? I''ve been "in the market", so to speak, for about 4-5 weeks--but have pretty much been obsessively researching/shopping ever since. (I may soon be fired.) The only other CC stones I''ve seen besides the four from my vendor friend, tho, have been during casual drop-ins at diamond district storefronts ("uh, hi, whatcha got in a cushion?"). I''m going back to the vendor to look at one or two more stones next week, but assuming those don''t hold a candle to this . . . should I buy??? Or does one need to look for months and months in order to be educated enough to make the right choice on a stone? There it is folks, the 16 thousand dollar question!
Wow, my typing fingers (all two of them) are tired, so your eyes must be too. But thank you, thank you, thank you so much in advance for your advice--you don''t know how much it is, has been and will be appreciated. Yep, I pretty much think I might love you guys, and I don''t even know you!!
Thanks a million, REENA
