I was hoping to get some help,

I got these ten years ago and where past down to me, I have no knowledge of the origin but they are old. The claps is gold & has three digits but I cannot read them, they are gritty on my teeth and are cold to touch and when I wear them they are dense . The Luster is fabulous but photos are under artificial lighting . I will get better photos tomorrow . The pearl size I done have and get tomorrow . I was hoping of someone could help me out . I am unsure what I have ?

These are freshwater button pearls, called this because of their slightly flattened shape.
Your pearls are not knotted between, and somewhat irregular in shape, which makes me think that they are not top quality. Freshwater pearls, mass produced in China, became very popular in the 1980's-90's. I think your strand dates to this time period. It is very pretty.
Can you see the marking on the clasp?

Hi Stracci, Thank you for the reply, Sorry for the delayed reply. I have added better photos which is natural light and looking at the clasp I am unsure it looks like 999 but I cannot get a good picture of it sorry, it is hard to see, the necklace is knotted at the back in two areas. The pearls are 5mm in size. they are heavy in weight and gritty.

I don't think your clasp is solid gold, or it would be marked 10k, 14k, or 18k.
999 is not a typical gold mark.
The necklace is not especially valuable, but the pearls have nice luster! Pearls look beautiful on everyone. Wear it and enjoy it!

And I’ll just add, if you are going to be wearing them frequently, it might be a good idea to have them re- strung. Having had a pearl necklace snap and the pearls go bouncing everywhere was awkward.
