I am looking to purchase a ring with a round brilliant center stone and pear sidestones. If the center stone is 1.09 carats are .25 tw. pear sidestones too small? I am trying to decide between this in G color or a 1.10 H color center diamond with .46 tw sidestones. Thanks!
This is just opinion obviously, but I asked my jeweller yesterday about the best ratio of pears:RB in that type of setting and he basically suggested approximately 1/3 of the size of the center stone. He said that would allow showcasing of the main stone. If that helps at all? Actually, I think that would be closer to .66 tctw in pears then, but .46 would be fine IMO.
The reason you don't want to go too large on the sidestones is that it will make the center too small. Kaleigh, for example, has a round center stone around 2.3 carats and side pears, I think, at about .60 ctw. I'll have to look that up to be sure it is total weight and not per stone. But with a one carat stone, that ratio would call for very tiny sidestones which might not look right. I'd probably trust Garry's judgement and go with the .46 ctw stones, but the ratio will be different than Kaleigh's due to the difference in center stone size.
(Yes, her center is 2.36 and the sides are .68 total weight, so about .34 each.)
