Don''t understand why the poll I set up previously does not work. Try again.

I am thinking about getting a pear pendant. I love the clean, crisp, and elegant look of a simple prong setting. Unfortunately, my budget is limited, and I cannot get a large pear. The largest possible pear diamond I can get will fit in a small 10x7mm frame, which I think will look too tiny compared to the rest of the necklace. One solution is to get a halo setting, which will boost the size of my pendant to 12.5x9mm (perfect size in my opinion). Other than extra cost, I am not sure if the halo look will be too busy.

Please help me decide by voting and proviiding comments.

BTW - No bezel for my pear.

Photo 1 - No halo. Prong set pear.

I vote no halo...esp. if this is an every day necklace. I think plain, it is clean and versitile.

What about a bezel instead of a halo?

I prefer to see more diamond and less metal. Besides, the bezel will cover part of the real-estate of an already tiny pear.

What about something like this...

I voted no on halo for a necklace because I dont usually like them unless they have other diamonds leading down
to the haloed diamond...just something about going from a thin chain to a big halo.

I cant find a good pear example that I like (with added diamonds). I admit that this is a little too much but what
I like is the diamonds leading up to the haloed stone.

Edit - I'm looking for some more examples
There are a couple that I think are pretty on this thread

Here''s a pic of a 1/3 ct pear pendant that I helped my dad pick for my mom last year. You can see that it''s pretty substantial even without a halo (I voted no halo):

Here''s a pic of the 1/3 ct pear next to my 1/2 ct rb pendant, just so you can compare shape sizes:

I voted for a halo. If you wanted to add just a little bit more to your pear you could have a very thin halo where the melee diamonds don''t overshadow your pear. That should give you just a bit more in size without sacrifing the beauty of your pear.

I vote no halo. Where did photo #1 come from FD? I love that necklace and would like to see more pictures of it.

These are extremely good suggestions. Thanks! Yes, I plan to have at least one melee leading to the pear pendant.

I love pears w/ halos - I think it would look great!

Thank you so, so much for providing these great visual aids. I find them extremely helpful. They have helped eliminate my worry about the size of my pear.

I found the photo from one of the threads here on PS. Don''t know which link. You see, I always make a copy of whatever I find interesting, drool over the photos from time to time, and delete them when I lose interest. This particular photo has been in my folder for a long time, so you know I really love it.

I made the decision to go without halo (for lower cost and cleaner/casual look => more wear) until I took a look at my 8x6mm opal and realized how tiny the pear diamond would look. Thus, I opted for the halo route. Now, the next quesion is the size of the melees in the halo. I want my pear pendant to have the same proportion and look as the one in the attached photo.

Suppose my pear measures 9.25x6.15mm, and thus has a similar L/W ratio of 1.50 as the pictued halo pear, what do you estimate as the size of the melees in the pictured halo?

Are these melees 1-pt, 1.5-pt, or 2-pt? Would you please try to guess?
