Hello people, I chanced upon a rose gold morganite ring and was in love with the color. I do not own a rose gold ring and thought it might be time for One! I like sapphire as it is tougher. I have a question here, which color peach or pink will look better in rose gold? are there any difference, color wise in 14K and 18K rose gold? Will be nice to
See some pictures! Thanks a million!

I have 10K, 14K and 18K rose gold, and all of them look almost identical with very subtle differences. I actually prefer 10K because it's the most coppery, and I love coppery metal. I was at a jewelry store the other day, and they had a beautiful alloy of 10K rose gold called "strawberry gold," and it was lovely and economical. Tiffany & Co even sells a very expensive rose gold alloy which is like 7K gold, but the color is beautiful. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with whatever rose gold karat you pick out, and I actually prefer 10K because my 18K pieces, including the one I have in rose gold, get loose prongs.

I think it depends on the type of pink though. I have a pale pink stone in 14K rose gold and I love it, but I prefer other pink stones in yellow gold if they're rather peachy, or if hot hot pink, in yellow or white gold.

Thank you TL! Can you post some pictures please...?

It depends on the stone and the karat-age and alloy of the rose gold metal. I find 14k RG to be redder and 18k RG to be pinker (more subtle with more yellow undertone). Unfortunately, I have 18K RG coloured skin and it blends into my skin all to well when I wear it. Depending on the purity of hue, which hue you want to bring out and the strength of saturation, some morganite will look better or worse in RG. Any pictures of the stone in particular?

Ditto what Chrono said. I've never seen 10k -- hadn't thought of it, neat idea, TL -- but I find 18k a bit rosier than 14k. 18k is also usually softer so needs to be checked by a jeweler regularly to be sure prongs aren't loose.

I have not come across 14k rose gold ring in person. What I see are the 18k. They are rather pale. Saw this, will that be a good guide? Like a ring like this. Thanks a mill..

I find 18K rose gold a bit less coppery if that makes sense.

Okay, here is a picture of a 14K ring (top) with a 10K band underneath. The bottom ring is 14K yellow gold. I really don't see a discernible difference between 10K and 14K, so now I always go with 10K because it's cost effective.

Here's an 18K rose gold piece

I have a pink spinel in rose gold somewhere (pic), I have to find it, but there's some pics of pink stones in rose gold in the above thread. My pink spinel is more of a pink with some violet undertones, it's not peachy.

Thank you:) the 18k rose gold is so subtle that it looks almost like yellow gold !

Yes, that's a good description, it's subtle. I don't care much for subtle rose gold. I want rose gold to look very coppery or pinkish.

It's a matter of taste though, and what YOU like.

I like the 14k color better, but in Asia, 18k is commonly used for jewelries.

In the United States, where I'm from, I'm seeing more and more 10K everywhere, and it's almost becoming standard. 14K was always the standard here. Metal prices and tough economic times are causing this, but I love 10K rose gold. I wouldn't do 10K yellow gold though, not yellow enough.

I love to have a pastel orangey pad, however it's just too costly. Do you think there could be a chance to mount a light peach sapphire on 14k rose gold ring to achieve an orangey pad color? Hope that does not sound ridiculous ...:p

Over here, 14k or less gold in general, are more commonly used in less expensive jewelries.

I think it would just look more peachy to be honest. There is a lady here who just set her light pink sapphire in a rose gold mount, and the rose gold did make it look more like a padparadscha, at least to me. See her comments in this thread about that.

Since you are in Asia, I would check to see the colours of the 14K and 18K rose gold there because the alloys used are so very different than those I see in the USA.

+1 Where you are shopping can make a difference in terms of gold alloys. It may not be striking to a layperson, but for someone that is discerning and looking for a certain effect, it may make a difference.

That's me :-)

The rose gold in my ring is limited to the prongs. The rest of the ring is platinum, so even the smallest amount of rose gold may have an impact on the color of the stone.

Thank you Swissmsiss, it's a lovely piece! Do you think that the rose gold prongs really make the light pink sapphire appears more pink?
